CROW FLAT
Dorothy Lewis
It has rained. The reports of rain, snow, and sleet vary across
Crow Flat. The Jones Ranch had a mixture of snow, rain, and sleet and,
at one point, the snow almost covered the ground. There has been
about an inch of rain all over Crow Flat. This was the final weekend for
rifle deer hunting. There were many hunters traveling the roads.
Quentin and Dana Dean were on the road again this week going to
watch their son, Clint play football with the Dell City Cougars. The Cou-
gars won the Bi-District Championship against Grady Friday night and
will be playing for the Area Championship next weekend. Congratula-
tions to the Cougars.
Thursday, Ande Lea Miller had an outpatient surgical procedure in
Carlsbad. Her mother, Janet Myers, came from Sacramento to be with
her. Ande Lea stayed at her home in Carlsbad over the weekend and
returned to Crow Flat Sunday. She is feeling well and looking forward to
going back to her teaching job in Dell City Monday. Janet also came to
Crow Flat and plans to spend a couple of days with her parents, Andy
and Nora Lea Lewis.

Friday, November 5, Deborah Hickox and her sister, Brenda
Etcheverry, went to Odessa. Deborah entered a barrel race and won
first place in the $500 Novice. She went back to Carlsbad to spend the
night at Brenda’s house and they went to another barrel race Saturday
in Loving. Deborah won first in the 1D on one horse and then won first in
the 2D on a different horse and also won first in the $250 Novice. Sun-
day, she went back to Loving and won first in the 1D, first in the 2D,
and first in the 3D. She rode three different horses during these barrel
races and placed on all three horses. It was a very successful week-
end for Deborah. She returned to Crow Flat Sunday night. This week-
end she had plans to attend another barrel race but it was rained out.
Deborah said that she spent the weekend catching up on her house
cleaning and laundry.
Saturday, I had a phone call from G.R. Walden. He says that he
and David Vance have moved from Lufkin to Weatherford, Texas. They
are breaking horses and day-working cattle. G.R. says that it has
rained a lot and there is a lot of grass in that country. G.R. lived with me
for several years and day-worked with my sons, Scott and Travis Le-
wis. These boys were the Crow Flat Cowboys.
Nick Herrera thanks and appreciates
those who supported him in the re-
cent election.
