The great increase (74) in the
scolastic population of Lockhart
during the past year, is so In-
omprehensible that the superin-
tendent of Public Instruction
evidently has suspicions as to
the correctness of the census,
and has called upon the county
judge to send up, for inspection,
the individual affidavits requir-
ed by law. Judge Kyser, aided
by Mr. Dodd, the city enumera-
tor, carefully examined the
lists and finding them to verify
the roll in every particular, sent
them Saturdpy, by mail, to the
Superintendent, as requested by
him. Mr. Kendall will find
that there has oeen no “pad-
ding” of the Lockhart Scolastic
roll, but that the increase is at-
tributable to the rapid growth
of the city. However, Mr. Ken-
dall’s vigilance aud caution in
the discharge of his official
duties, will be highly commend-
ed by all good citizens.
