WALNUT ROLL
by Annie Majnik
1 small cake yeast or pkg.
1 C. scalded cooled milk
1C. (melted) shortening
4 C. flour
2 egg yolks beaten slightly
1 Tsp. salt
2 Tsp. sugar
Method: Sift flour, salt and
sugar after milk is cooled, add
yeast and 2 Tsp. sugar, add to
shortening. Blend dough and egg
yolks. Refrigerate over night
Following day removed let stand 2
hours at room temperature before
rolling out. Divide into 3 roll, bake
15 minutes hot oven, then 45
minutes moderate oven.
Filling:
1*4 lb. walnuts
or pecans ground
fine
1 C. sugar
2 egg whites
*4 Tsp. vanilla
Blend the above if thick, add
warm milk or cream.
WASSAIL

SAUSAGE DIPLETS

1 lb. country sausage
Shape sausage
into balls the size of
walnuts (24 to 28
balls) or smaller if
you prefer. These
may be made up the
day before and
refrigerated. Pan fry
slowly turning fre-
quently to brown on
all sides or bake on
broiler pan for 20 to 30
miutes until brown at
350 degrees F.
Suggested Dips:
1. Cheese Whiz-
heated
2. Catsup
3. Horse-radish sauce
Gblend 8 oz sour
cream dressing with
2 tablespoons
horseradish and
teaspoon salt. These
are good with any
good dip.
BOILED
FRUITCAKE

2 C. firmly packed
brown sugar
% C. shortening
1 lb. seeded raisins,
cut into pieces
1 lb. pitted dates
1 lb. currants
1 C. shredded blansh-
ed almonds
2 eggs
C. molasses (or
syrup)
2 Tsp. ground.cin-
namon
4 Tsp. cocoa
2 C. strong hot coffee
4 C. all-purpose flour
2 Tsp. soda
Mix together all
ingredients except
flour and soda. Boil
for 10 minutes. Cool
and add the flour
which with the soda
has been sifted
through. Shape into a
well greased, large
pan. Bake at 325 for i
hour and 45 minute.
Yield: 7 to 7*4
pounds.
PEANUTTY
CHOCOLATE
KISSES

1 C. peanut butter
>4 C. butter or oleo
>4 C. firmly packed
brown sugar
2 eggs
1 C. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 bag (16 oz.) choc,
kisses
Cream together
peanut butter, butter
and sugar. Beat in
eggs. Tn seperate
bowl combine flour
baking powder and
cinnamon add
gradually to peanut
butter mixture stirr-
ing well. Chill dough
throughly. Wrap
about a teaspoon of
the chilled dough
around each kiss.
Place on a cookie
sheet. Bake at 350 for
10 or 12 minutes.
Remove from oven
and cool slightly
makes about six
dozen kisses.

LINCOLN LOG
% C. Grandma’s
molasses
% C. peanut butter
1 C. instant nonfat
dry milk
% C. chopped peanuts
Mix molasses
and peanut butter in
bowl; stir in dry milk.
Knead on board light-
ly sprinkled with dry
milk to keep from
sticking. Roll into
log,shape 2 inches
thick; chill for 30
minutes. Roll log in
peanuts. Mixture
may be rolled into
rope ty-inch in
diameter for in-
dividual pieces. Cut
into 1‘4-inch lengths;
wrap pieces in waxed
paper or plastic
wrapt Yield: 1 pound.

First Part:
1 German choc, cake
mix
4 eggs
‘ 1 cup buttermilk
>/4 cun oil
Mix well 4
divide in half. Pour >4
batter in a 9x13 greas-
ed and floured pan.
Bake 6 minutes at 350
degrees F. Remove
from oven.
Second Part:
1 cup chopped pecans
or *4 cup
% cup evaporated
milk
1 pkg. choc, chips (6
oz.)
Mix the
caramels and 3z» cup
milk in double boiler
until melted. Drizzle
over the half cooked
cake. Sprinkle the
chopped nuts over
caramel and choc,
chips over pecan§,
cover with remaining
batter. Bake at 350
degrees F. for 50
minutes or til cake is
done. When cold 4
ADVOCAT^Wed, Nov. 24,
serving put each slice
in microwave for 45
seconds 4 then top
with vanilla ice
cream. So good.
CHEESE DIP

1 lb velveeta cheese
1 large jar chopped
pimentos
2 small cans chopped
green chilies
1 can evaporated
milk (large)
2 cans cream of
chicken soup
Melt all together
over low heat stirring
to keep it from stick-
ing. Serve hot with
tortilla chips.

olives
3 Tbsp, olive juice
>4 tsp. Worcestershire
sauce
Dash of garlic
powder
4-3 oz. pkg. of ham or
corn beef slices
Combine cream
cheese, olive, olive
juice Worcestershire
sauce and garlic
powder add more
olive juice if
necessary for proper
spreading consisten-
cy. Spread on ham
slices or corn beef
slices. Roll up and cut
in half makes 4 dozen.
I make 2 dozen of
ham and 2 doz. of
corn beef.
