Another section of the law im-
poses a tax on all manufacturers
of the following articles:
Cereal beverages and soft
drinks. Mineral waters and
table waters when sold in bot-
tles or other closed containers.
It also applies to all, soft drinks
ice cream sodas, etc. prepared
and sold at fountains.
Still another part of the law
places a tax on all sales of cer-
tain articles when selling price
exceeds a prescribed amount.
This section affects sales of the
following articles:
Carpets, rugs, picture frames,
trunks, traveling bags, suit cas-
es, pocket books, purses, shop-
ping and hand bags, umbrellas,
parasols, fans, bath and lounging
robes, men’s waistcoats, womens
and Misses hats, bonnets, hoods,
men’s and boy’s hats and caps,
men’s, women’s, misse’s and
boy’s boots, shoes, pumps and
slippers, men’s and boy’s neck-
ties, silk stockings, men’s shirts,
men’s, women’s, misses, and
boys’ pajamas and underwear,
women’s petticoats and waists.
Dealers of either of the three
classes of articles are required
to make reports at stated times to
the Collector of Internal Reve-
nue. All dealers should furnish
the Collector their names and
addresses immediately, in order
that he may furnish them blanks
upon which to make reports.
Failure to make the required re
will subject spny dealer to penal-
ty. .
This paper is just in receipt of
a communication from Judge A.
S. Walker, Collector of Internal
Revenue, at Austin, outlining the
provisions of that portion of the
new revenue bill imposing taxes
on miscellaneous luxuries. This
provision of the bill affects al-
most every class of business
from the street vender of candy
and soft drinks to the manu-
facturer of automobiles and
motor trucks.
One section of the law passes
a tax on all persons selling- real
and imitation jewelry, precious
stones, watches, clocks, opera
glasses, etc. Sculpture, paint-
ings, statuary, andpotcelains and
bronzes.
