Mr. and Mrs. J.H. (George) Wheeler celebrated their 50* anniversary
with a dinner on Saturday, Jan. 18 at County Line Restaurant in Lubbock.
Hosting the event was their children and spouses, Van and Lynda
Wheeler of Overland Park, Kan., Randy and Pam Wheeler of Greensboro,
N.C. and Vernon and Donna Wheeler of Levelland.
The former Joy Van Doren and J.H. (George) Wheeler married Jan.
23, 1952 in die chapel of First United Methodist Church in Levelland.
They have six grandchildren.
George and Joy retired from forming in the Pettit and Pep area. They
enjoy traveling to visit relatives and watching their grandchildren’s
activities. A special guest was their oldest grandson, on leave from a naval
base in California.

Nashville guitarist conducting
business & guitar workshop
Brad Davis, one of Nashville's have an interest in learning more
most respected guitarists, will
conduct a music business and guitar
workshop Feb. 11 at South Plains
College in Levelland.
The session is scheduled 10
a.m.-noon in the Tom T. Hall
Performance Center in SPC's
Creative Arts Building. There is no
charge. The center seats about 250
persons.

first meeting
The Level land Habitat for
Humanity held its first meeting of
2003 on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003 at
4 p.m. in the Annex Building of
Austin Street Church of Christ.
The Advisory Board meeting
was called to order by Hugh
Forehand, president. The following
members were present: Ken Wil-
liams, Steve Vernon, Kelly Baggett,
Bill Billingsley, Debra Dye, Isabel
Whitfield, Judy Norton, Becky
Currington, Doris Reding, and
Robin Buckner of the Lubbock
Habitat for Humanity.
A community meeting to pro-
vide general information about
Habitat for Humanity will be Feb.
20, 2002 at 7 p.m. at the Levelland
Head Start Office located at 1303
Houston St..
Information about Habitat for
Humanity will be presented and
individuals who have benefited
from the program will speak about
their experiences as new homeown-
ers. Information about the
Levelland Habitat for Humanity
will also be presented.
The next meeting of the Advi-
sory Board will be Feb. 11 at 4 p.m.
at the Annex Building of Austin St.
Church of Christ.

Doubrava, Henson
announce engagement
Doug and Beverly Doubrava of Kerrville and formerly of Levelland
wish to announce the engagement of their daughter, Dea Anne Doubrava
of Lubbock to Bryan Edgar Henson of Lubbock, son of Mike and Toni
Henson of Seagraves.
The bride-elect is a 1996 graduate of Levelland High School. She
currently attends Texas Tech University.
The prospective groom is a 1996 graduate of Seagraves High School
and a,2002 graduate of Texas Tech University. He currently attends Texas
Tech’s graduate school. He is employed with the Texas Agricultural
Experiment Station.
The couple will wed May 25, 2003 in the historic Baker building in
downtown Lubbock.
James Payne to speak
at South Plains Church
James Payne will be the guest
speaker at South Plains Church this
Sunday for both the morning and
evening services.
Payne is a Grammy nominated
songwriter, having penned over
2000 songs. His signature son is
“The Night Ole Jack Daniel’s Met
John 3:16", was not only a hit in
gospel music but also crossed over
to the country charts. It reached
number one on piany large country
music stations.
Payne’s list of songwriter
credits reads like a “Who’s Who of
Singers” including Lee Greenwood
and Ricky Van Shelton. He has
preached in over 5000 crusades and
continues to be in great demand for
revivals and camp meetings.
“James ministry is one that is
always followed by supernatural
signs and wonders,” said Eddie
Trice, senior pastor of South Plains
Church. “Every time he comes to
minister we experience the miracle
working power of God.”
Payne will be ministering at
10:40 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the church
located at 1421 E. Cactus Dr.
