National tourney full of exciting & hard-fought games
National Title was won by White-
house by a score of 28-24 over
Plainview #1.
Whitehouse and Plainview
stayed within reach of one an-
other through most of the game
The score was 15-13 Whitehouse
as the final six minutes began
Plain view tied the game at 17-17
but Whitehouse pulled out to a
22-18 lead with four minutes left.
Plainview had several oppor-
tunities at the free throw line but
hit only 35 percent of their shots.
Scoring for Whitehouse was
Brie Smith with six, Alicia
Cordova with three, Shelly Wil-
liams with three, Kylee Little
with two, Sasha Wickware with
four, Meghan Jackson with five,
Erinne Hopkins with two, Kristin
Armstrong with one, and Sarah
Silverton with two.
Scoring for Plainview were
Brooklyn Owens with two,
Jessica Castro with two, Ashley
Hardage with two, Twyla Ards
with nine, Heather Brock with
five, Evan Teel with two, and
Kyndra Jackson with two.
In first round action, Snyder
beat Lamesa #241-13. Shaquita
Sneed had 13 points for Snyder.
Shayla Scott and Olivia Caudillo
with four points each for Lamesa.
Bryan beat Plainview #2 by
the score of 35-13. Console
Palmer led Bryan with eight
points. Plainview was led by
Laney Wells and Rebekah Spain
with three points each.
Levelland #2 beat George-
town 24-17. Levelland used their
teamwork and all-around shoot-
ing skills to pick up the win.
Levelland led 14-5 at the
break. They slipped in the third
period but came back in the final
period scoring 7-5 over George-
town.

NATIONAL TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS - Whitehouse won
the 2003 National Girls Little Dribbler tournament held in Levelland
this past week. They won the National Senior Division by a score of
38-33 over Plainview. Members of the team are: (10) Natalie Gray,
(12) Madison Phenix, (13) Haley Dunn, (14) Robin McKinney, (15)
Jasmine Reeves, (20) Mallory Red, (23) Nicole Tucker, (24) Kayla
Mason. (30) Kendall Frizzell, (33) Tori Davis, (34) Amber Brown,

NATIONAL MAJOR CHAMPIONS - Whitehouse won the
National Championship National Division title Saturday evening
when they beat Plainview # 1 by a score of 28-24 in the National Girls
Little Dribbler tournament held inside the Levelland High School
gymnasium. They were competing in the Major Division. Members
of the team are: (10) Brie Smith, (13) Holly Brown, (14) Alicia
Cordova, (15) Shelly Williams, (21) Lauren Grabski, (22) Kylee
Little, (23) Sasha Wickware, (30) Meghan Jackson, (31) Erinne
Hopkins, (33) Kristin Armstrong, (34) Sarah Silverton. Coaches are:

Levelland Girls Little Drib-
bler Association hosted the 2003
National Little Dribblers Tourna-
ment last week The tournament
consisted of 64 teams from the
National and American Divisions
vying for championship titles in
the junior, major, and senior divi-
sions.
Levelland had two teams
competing in the senior division,
three in the major division, and
one in the junior division. The
following are the results of each
division.
National Junior Division
The Junior 2003 National
Champions in the National Divi-
sion is Plainview #1. They beat
Navasota by a score of 32-25.
The game was tightly con-
tested through the first three peri-
ods. Plainview managed an 11-6
lead in the first period utilizing
free throws.
Navasota struck back in the
second period hitting several
shots from inside the paint to pull
within three points by the hal-
ftime buzzer (17-14).
Scoring was traded in the
third period with a 3-point differ-
ence separating the teams going
into the final stanza (22-19,
Plainview),
Navasota pulled to within
two points of Plainview with 1:24
left in the game when Anesha
Wilcox sank the back-end of a
two-shot free throw (27-25).
Plainview responded with a
shot on the opposite end of the
court and pulled out front 29-25.
The intensity level rose to a
fever pitch as the seconds ticked
off the game clock. Both teams
had shots at the bucket but the
ball was not falling through. Then
with 23 seconds left in the game.
Plainview's Laura Castillo drove
in for the layup, made the shot,
and was fouled. She made the
free throw for the 32-25 final.
Scoring for Plainview were
Morgan Ashmore with five,
TOURNAMENT RUNNER-UPS - Plainview placed second at the
2003 National Girls Little Dribbler tournament held in Levelland this
past week. They came in second behind Whitehouse by a score of 38-

Tournament in Levelland as the nation’s number two team. They fell
to Whitehouse by a score of 28-24. Members of the team are: (0)

Levelland was up 8-7 in the
first period.
Plainview poured in 13
points in the second period hold-
ing Levelland to only two points
for a 20-10 lead at the break.
Levelland picked up a couple
of points on Plainview in the
third period for the 27-19 score.
Both teams sank 13 points in
the final period Levelland was
unable to make up any ground
suffering the loss.
Childers ended with 24
points, Paris with two, Shaheen
with four, Lindsey Lee with two
points.
Plainview was led by Rich-
burg with 13 points. Morgan
Ashmore added 10 points.
Navasota continued to roll
through the losers bracket with a
34-19 win over Plainview #2.
Palmer had 20 points for
Navasota. Amanda Ramirez had
11 points for Plainview.
Levelland and Navasota met
in the semi-finals to determine
who would go to the final round.
In the high-scoring, hot-paced
game, Navasota came out on top
49-41.
Levelland led 12-8 in the
first period.
Navasota outscored Level-
land 19-8 in the second period for
the 27-20 lead at the break.
Levelland cut up their lead in
the third period trailing by only
three (33-30) at the buz2er.
Navasota had more success
inside the paint in the final period
for the 49-41 victory.
Childers had 10 points. Paris
with six, Shaheen with 11 points,
Gilmer with five, Lacey Pate with
two, Lindsey Lee with six, and
Sanford with one.
Plainview and Navasota fin-
ished the tournament.
National Major Division
The Major Division had the
biggest draw with 15 teams. The
Laura Castillo with nine, Kacy
Richburg with eight, Sydney
Hearn with six, and Marisa
Gamboa and Bonnie Sisemore
with two points each.
' Scoring for Navasota were
Raven Palmer with 12, Vanesha
Wilcox with 11, and Dionee
Calhoun with two points.
The Junior Division began
on Wednesday with four ball
games.
.Levelland blew past Big
Spring by a score of 44-14. Big
Spring led in the first period, 6-4
Levelland’s Ashley Childers
fired up her team in the second
period with 10 points. Megan
Paris added six points.with Hil-
lary Shaheen chipping in four
points. Levelland was in control
of the game by a score of 24-8 at
the half.
Levelland’s defense contin-
ued to dominate the floor through
the second half holding Big
Spring to two and four points
respectively.
Clarissa Hum kept the of-
fense going in the third period
with six points and Ariana
Methvin added two points.
Levelland spread their scor-
ing throughout the final period
for the eventual 44-14 victory.
Scoring for Levelland were
Childers with 12, Paris with
eight, Shaheen with six, Micah
Gilmer with two. Hum with 10
points, Methvin with two, and
Sara Sanford with four points.
Big Spring was led by
Lindzey Roach with 10 points.
Lamesa rolled past George-
town in game two by the score of
22-12. High point for Lamesa
was Johnna Prather with 15.
Georgetown was led by Haley
Rhoads with five points.
Plainview #1 opened the
tournament with a 37-13 win over
Snyder.
Plainview was led by Rich-
burg with 15 points. Snyder was
led by Bailey Nickerson with six
points. She made four-out-of-four
free throws.
/Navasota began the tourna-
ment with a big 42-22 win over
Pflugerville.
Palmer led Navasota with 18
points. Monica Warren was high
point for Pflugerville with 12
points.
The final two teams in the
junior division pitted Plainview B
against Bryan. The game went
back-and-forth until Plainview B
won in the final seconds by a
score of 24-23.
Amanda Ramirez led Plain-
view with 10 points. Shantoria
Taylor led Bryan with six points.
Tierra Thomas added five points.
Levelland met Lamesa in the
next round. Levelland shot the
ball well ending with the 33-15
victory.
Levelland ted 4-2 in the first
period. Shaheen led the second
period with six points helping
Levelland to a 10-5 lead at the
break.
Hum, Methvin, and Amy
Tienda combined shots in the
third period for a 19-11 lead.
Levelland spread the wealth
in the final period ending with 14
points to only four by Lamesa.
Scoring for Levelland were
Childers w'ith three, Paris with
two, Shaheen with six, Maritza
Flores with two, Micah Gilmer
with two, Hum with 10, Methvin
with three, Sanford with two, and
Tienda with three.
Leading scorer for Lamesa
was Johnna Prather with eight.
Plainview #1 pulled out a
close game against Navasota by
the score of 31-30. Kacy
Richburg led Plainview with 22
points. Palmer led Navasota .with
22 points.
'Georgetown jumped on Big
Spring, 24-9. Haley Rhoads and
Emilv Johnson with six points
each for Georgetown. Lindsey
Roach with three points for Big
Spring.
Pflugerville beat Snyder 40-
16 staying alive in the tourna-
ment. Monied Warren led
Pflugerville with 10 points. Baily
Nickerson had four points for
Snyder
Levelland beat Plainview #2
30-17 moving up another notch
in the* tournament. Levelland
scored 12 points in the first pe-
riod to six for Plainview. Level-
land played consistent through
the middle periods and then
poured in 11 points in the final
six minutes for the win.
Childers had six points, Paris
with five points, Shaheen with six
points, Flores with two, Gilmer
with four, Hum with five points,
and Sanford with two points.
Desiree Rodriguez led Plain-
view with four points.
Georgetown managed an 18-
13 win over Lamtsa to stay active
in the tournament. Allyson Mc-
Cracken led Georgetown' with
eight points. Lamesa was led by
Johnna Prather with seven points.
Pflugerville continued their
play with a 31-24 win over
Bryan. Monica Warren had eight
points for Pflugerville. Bethany
Daily ended with nine points for
Bryan. She hit 100 percent at the
free throw line (5-5).
Plainview #2 squeaked by
Georgetown 20-19. Desiree Ro-
driguez ended with six points for
Plainview. Amanda Bizzell Jiad
five points for Georgetown.
Navasota dominated Pfluger-
ville by a score of 37-11. Raven
Palmer had 14 points for
Navasota. Brittany Gray and
Khayna Stanford had three points
each for Pflugerville.
Plainview #1 handed Level-
land their first loss by a score of
40-32.
