Nocona spent a “safe and sane"
'hristmas day. but officers are
keeping their fingers crossed con-
■eming the second long weekend
just ahead.
Weatherwise, the day was < lou
dy and a strong wind prevailed
but there was no rain as had been
nredicted as probable.
No fires or automobile accidents
marred the day. but there was
■•n accident Christmas eve at
'’lay and Highway 82 under the
traffic light. A car traveling west
and driven by District Attorney
T^eslie Echols of Paris collided
with a pickup driven bv Houston
rox of Nocona. The Echols car
was considerably damaged. *
The only Christmas week fire
was a grass fire Monday morning '
at the Dale Allen home.
Highway Department
Announces 2 Major
Improvements In ’60
Two major highway improve-
ments have been scheduled for
1960. the highway department re-
ported today.
One of the improvements calls
for widening, grading and should-
er rebuilding of Highway 82 from
the citv limits of Nocona west for
4.2 miles. No completion date has
been set.
The other improvement provid-
es for 5.3 miles of construction of
farm road 1806 south to old farm
road 1935. Lowest bid received
for this project was $97 184. It
is expected that it will require
110 working days for completion

Nocona Boot Company's Christmas
Party Held At School Last Week
Nocona Boot company’s Christ-
mas party, one of the social high-
lights of the year, was held last
Tuesday night at the high school
cafeteria with 155 in attendance,
including employes and guests.
W. O. Cooper opened the pro-
gram with prayer after which a
turkey dinner was served cafe-
teria style bv Jetton’s.
The after-dinner program was
opened by Bill Stouder who read
a Christmas poem written by Mrs.
Lona Henry, Bonita postmaster,
and carol singing, accompanied at
tile piano bv Mrs. James Daugher
tv and led by Mrs. Bess Berry.
A reading. “Christmas in Swed-
en. was given by Mrs. Selma Lin-
delof. a native of Sweden but a
long-time resident of Nocona who,
with her son Olaf of Houston, was
among the guests of President
Enid Justin.
A “Barber Shop Quartet” skii
was presented by employes ir.
the fitting and stitching depart
men.t directed by Mrs. Earl Noal.
Colored movies of a couple of
previous company Christmas
parties were shown as was a sound
movie of a recent interview in
Germany with Soldier “Mo” Gra
ham. son of Employe George and
Mrs. Graham. The movie was
shown two weeks ago by a Wich
ita Falls television station.
Gift exchange held
With Miss Justin presiding, as-
sisted by office employes, the an-
nual gift exchange was held by

tin’s announcement that the shop
would be closed from Wednesday
afternoon through Sunday.
Rev. and Mrs. W. D. Craig spent
Christmas day and Saturday with
their son, Aubrey and family in
Dallas.
Mr. and Mrs. M. K. Thrasher
are spending the Christmas holi-
days at Lawton. with their son
in-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Franklin Jr. and children.

Party Held With
Exchange Of Gifts
The Rotary club’s Christmas par-
ty and gift exchange was held last

Of Guild Held At
Lindell O’Neal Home
The home of Mrs. Lindell O’Neal
was the setting for the Christ
mas meeting December 21 of
Wesleyan Service Guild of First
Methodist church. Mrs. Genr
Meeks shared hostess duties with
Mrs. O’Neal.
Mrs. Lyle Sawyer directed the
program which dealt with Christ
mas customs of other lands after
which the group joined in sing
ing of carols led by Luciel Leon
ard with Mrs. Lucy Lesh at the
niano. Devotions offered by Mrs.
R. F. Thompson dealt with the
spiritual gifts of Christmas.
A refreshment plate and hot
punch were served, as the group
sat about the lighted Christmas
tree.. Yule decorations were used
throughout the living rooms.

Aunts Die Yule Week
Mr. and Mrs. Pete Uselton and
family attended funeral services
Sunday at Ben Wheeler for Mrs.
Ethel Shinn, aunt of Mrs Uselton
and Mrs. A. D. Major. Mrs. Shinn
died Christmas day.
This was the second aunt of
Mrs. Uselton and Mrs. Major who
died within a week. Another. Mrs.
Lcnna Stringer, died December 20
at Ben Wheeler. Both were sisters
of Mrs. Molly Chandler, Mrs. Us-
elton’s and Mrs. Major’s mother.
