NOCONA INDIANS vs. OLNEY CUBS
Chief Nocona Says:
My boys brave men, claw
panthers good, but twice
need bows and arrows-
NOKON! TRIBE
WHEN WHITE SETTLERS FIRST COME
TO NORTH AND WEST TEXAS, THERE
WERE SEVERAL BANDS OR SUB-TRIB-
ES OF COMANCHES, ALL PART OF
THE LOOSELY CONNECTED COMAN-
CHE NATION.
THEY HAD WARRED AGAINST THE
PLAINS APACHES AND THE SPANI-
ARDS. AT FIRST THEY WERE FRIEND-
LY WITH THE ENGLISH SPEAKING
PEOPLE, BUT WHEN THEY SAW THE
COUNTRY BEING SETTLED, THEY
WAGED A GUERILLA WARFARE
AGAINST THE SETTLERS.
THE NOKONIS FORMED ONE OF THE
STRONGEST OF THESE COMANCHE
GROUPS.
