INTER-OFFICE LETTER
FOR MR. H. L. Williams DATE November 14, 1973SUBJECT October 1973 Financial Statement 7-72 2M 38977
WRITE ON BUT ONE SUBJECT TO BE USED BY ALL OFFICERSORDEPARTMENT
ON THIS SHEET HEADS FOR INTER-OFFICE CORRESPONDENCEImperial's October 1973 profit of $299,425 after federal income
taxes is the highest profit month of the ten months completed
in 1973. As a matter of fact, October 1973 is the highest
profit month since June 1971's $302,722.
Imperial's year-to-date profit after taxes is $1,154,501
through October 1973 compared to $1,387,848 for 1972, $2,295,685
for 1971 and $1,985,986 for 1970.
The good profit performance for October 1973 can be attributed
to two factors. The contribution margin of $1.6598 per bag,
which is the highest obtained since December 1970's $1.7250
per bag, and shipments in October 1973 of 735,260 bags.
Sales Price
Average sales price received in October 1973 was $14.5737 per
bag, a 52.97 cent increase over September 1973's $14.0440.
Sales deductions decreased 1.09 cents per bag. The net sales
price received thus increased 54.06 cents per bag over September
1973. Consumer sugars shipped accounted for 40.2% of total
shipments in October 1973 compared to 37.4% in September 1973
and 43.8% in October 1972. Decrease in 5 and 10 lb. bale
shipments was the reason for the decrease in consumer shipments
as a % of total shipments in October 1973 as compared to
October 1972. Price increases put into effect in October 1973
as well as the greater % of consumer shipments thus increased
the average sales price received over September 1973.
Cost of Sales
Cost of sales increased 21.81 cents per bag over September 1973
to $12.1044 for October 1973. Cost of raws melted increased
while the refining loss decreased due to an adjustment.
Raws melted in October 1973 cost $11.1137 per bag compared
to $10.8859 in September 1973 and $9.5081 in October 1972.
