MEN THAT COIN! FOR
GOD AND THE COMMUNITY(By R. T Breedlove)
Some men are brought to perfec-
tion by trial* and vicissitudes, and
some are brought to disaster. Some
'come up through humiliation to
grandeur of character, and some ar?
wrecked in the process of character
making line man wil^become a
Judas, while another by the same
pr cess of proving will instead of
showing the cowardly yellow streak
show up pure gold, like John or
Peter.
Some m.'n are like stray dogs, fol-
lowing just any master, white, b’ack
or yellow, criminal or what not.
Some men will <juit like rats when
the fight comes n hot, when the
danger is near. Some men can’t say
no to anything or any person but
God. Some men straddle and quib-
ble. afraid to do their plain and sac-
red duty. There are they who make
it hard fur the men who do count
and do their work. They are trait-
• rs in the camp, enemy sympathiz-
ers, unpatriotic, yellow streaked.
These are not the men that count.
The man that counts has a clear eye.
a sound’, far-seeing judgment, a
courageous soul, and a faith that
will not shrink iti the face of the
devil and al! his men and imps and
institutions.
“Men That fount” is the subject
for morning preaching at the Meth-
odist Chur h next Sunday. The Pub-
lic and especially men are asked toattend. Courteous treatment, but a
plain sermon is cur aim. And It is
the prayer of the preacher that men
may be held by this sendee.
We welcome the new Baptist pas-
tor. Rev. O. J. Hull and wish for him
and his people a great pastorate to-
gether It is probable that We will
not have a service at the evening
hour, it having been a custom of
long standing to visit other churches
when they have a new pastor.
Men wh? are not located in other
churches are welcomed to The
Roughneck Sunday School Class.
O r attendance is growing, forty and
thirty-seven being the record for the
last two Sundays. It is the purpose
of this class to serve in as large a
way as is possible in this commun-
ity, and to do »c, we need the help
ot as many men as we can induce
to join with us in this great class.
The community has a right to be
proud of as large a group of men as
that. Perhaps th? re is not another
city on the South Plains anywhere
near the size of this that has so
large a class of men. Help us make
it a larger one. To do so we will
have to provide a larger meeting
place, but that can l»e easily and in-
expensively done. We challenge the
men to make us build a room. i

Mrs. H. C. Crig was in (/Donnell I
Monday and went around to the
hatchery there to find out about the |
eagle eggs which had been found |
and placed in the hatchery, a story
of which appeared in this paper last
week. She found that both of the
eggs had hatched. One of the yourp;
eagles had died but the other was
alive and apparently enjoying per-
fectly g od health. She said the lit-
tle fellow looked very much like a
gosling but he will probably grow up
to be an eagle, if he keeps his
health. 4Curtis Crouch arid family and Ev-
