Catholic Cemetery.
Mrs. Marek passed away Friday,
August IS, in Fayete Memorial
Hospital in La Grange at the age of
70 years.
The daughter of Edward and
Frances (Kuns) Polcek, she was
bom May 15, 1916 in Industry. She
married Joe H. Marek March 8,1943
in Industry and became a housewife.
A member of St John Catholic
Church in Fayetteville, she was also
a member of the CDA, the KJZT and
the Altar Society.
Surviving are her husband, Joe H.
Marek of Fayetteville; one daughter
and son-in-law, Mary and Alfred
Janacek of La Grange; four grand-
children, Patrick, Angela, Chris and
Brian Janacek of La Grange; two
sisters, Bessie Warschak of Miggfon
and Mary Kautz of Bellville.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, one son, Edward, three
brothers and one sister.

Miss Canik died Thursday, Augut
14 as a result of injuries racsivod in
an auto accident in La Grange.
Born January 23, IM in La
Grange to LeRoy Canik and Peggy
Vaalcek Canik, she was a lifetime
resident of Fayette County.
She was a member of St. John's
Catholic Church, the CYO, CDA and
KJZT and was the valedictorian for
her graduating clans at Fayetteville
High School this part year. She had
been active in the FHA and FF A and
the Honor Society.
Survivors Include her parents,
LeRoy and Peggy Canik of Fayette-
ville; one brother, Randall Wayne
Canik of Fayetteville; grandmother,
Loraine Vaalcek of Fayetteville;
and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Alfred Canik of Fayetteville.

and was a member of the Sealy
Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include her husband,
Ben Rom of Sealy; daughters, Mrs.
Jane Fuller of Houston and Mrs.
Blanche Ivy of Sealy; sons, Abra-
ham Lamer of Connecticut and
Harold Rom of Sealy; twelve grand-
children and five great-grandchild-
ren.
She wm preceded in death by her
parents, two brothers and one sister.
Pallbearers were Timothy Roas,
Willie Ivy, Otis Ivy, William Abai
Clifton Brest and Steve Grigson.

27 at 5:00 in the Courthouse base-
ment for the purpose of organizing
the Livestock Judging project for
this year. Anyone interested should
attend this meeting. Last year's
teams did real well, winning several
trophies and individual honors. Mr.
Callis is hoping for an even better
year.

Legion State
Commander
John W. J. Richter of Brenham
has been elected the 1996-87 Com-
mander of the 88,000 member Texas
American Legion.
The 61-year-old was selected over
one other challenger for the top
elective Post in the state Legion
when he received the majority of
votes among some 2,000 Legion-
naires at the annual state convention
in Lubbock, July 2547. Richter
succeeds Herbert Oddi of Fort
Worth, who will now serve on the
state executive committee.
Richter, a retired school teacher,
was bom in New Wehdem in Austin
County. He received Ns Bachelor of
Arts Degree and Ns Master of
Education from Sam Houston State
University. He served in the U3.
Army for two years, serving with the
Field Artillery, 32nd Division, in the
PhiUipines. Richter has been a
member of Buddy Wright Post 48,
Brenham since IM and has served
in various capacities at the Poet,
District, Division, State and Nation-
al Levels. He is also serving m vice
president of the Washington County
Agricultural Extension Program
Building Committee and President
of the Washington Garden Commit-
tee. He to a member of St. Janws
Lutheran Church and to married to
the former Aitotha Mae Loesch.
