Tryrtnr accidents generally in-

get into full swing with the spring
season. Attenion to a few safety
precautions can bead off many of
these mishaps.
FERTILIZE FOR FALL
PASTURES, HAY
tore and hay this fall should make
plans for fertilizing.
Fertiliser - specially nitrogen -
improveshay quality. In addition to
improving the protein content, nit-
rogen improves the efficiency of
rainfall. This means that three to
four times as much forage can be
grown on the same area when
adequately fertilised as when no
fertilizer is applied.

LANDSCAPE IRRIGATION
TTPS OFFERED
With the current hot, dry weather,
homeowners must give careful at-
tention to watering their yards and
and gardens. Some tips on getting
the most from irrigation water no as
to keep plants and lawns healthy
while keeping water costa down are
as follows:
1. Practice slow, deep watering
to allow roots to penetrate deeper so
that plants become more stress-
resistant.
2. Soaker hoses and drip irriga-
tion systems work well on trees and
shrubs. It’s more efficient to water
at night or early in the morning
because evaporation is less. How-
ever, night-time watering can pro-
mote more disease problems.
3. Too much water can be as
detrimental or even worse than not
enough. The rate at which water is
applied should be no more rapid
than the rate at which the soil can
absorb it. Never fertilize landscape
plants when soil Is dry. It’s best to
water the area one day, apply
