The high school games are a
prelude to the upcoming season of
the New Ulm Firemen who will get
cranked up in mid-April, the typical
early start of the South Central
Texas Amateur League. A tentative
SCTAL schedule has the Firemen
opening on April 16 in Flatonia, then
hosting Shiner and Schulenburg
April 22 and 23 and then entertaining
Weimar, April 30, the afternoon of
the Annual New Ulm Volunteer Fire
Department’s Fish Fry.
The schedule, complete with start-
ing times, is expected to be finalised
shortly.
For interested folks in the area,
plenty of baseball has arrived.
County Roundup
Date Changed
There has been another date
change for Austin County Roundup
competition. County Roundup will
be held on March 31, 1080 in the
Courthouse Meeting Room at 6:30
p.m.
Also a reminder to any Roundup
participant that the office is open to
them if they need help on their topics
or refining their topics.

Frank will be preaented on Friday,
March 31 at The University of Texas
at Austin Winedale Historical Center
Theater Barn at 8:00 p.m. Id
conjuction with the Annual Winedale
spring Festival and Texas Crafts
Exhibition. Winedale is located on
FM 2714,4 miles east of Round Top
in Fayette County.
The play will be presented In the
German language by The University
of Texas Department of Germanic
Languages directed by Glen Ehr-
stine. The play is a comedy about
Toni, a mongrel who It pitted against
a candidate of Mayor who has
doubled the dog tax to cover the
city’s deficit Baying citizens hound
the politician’s political career to
death.
A reception will follow the play
with free refreshments and German
singing by the Froehliche Gesang
Verein of Winedale under the direc-
tion of Dwight Nittsche.
Admission is 92 for adults and 50
cents for students. For further
information call the center office at
409-278-3530 from 9-5 weekdays.
Bellville Jr. High
Plans
Orientation
The Bellville Jr. High is planning
an orientation meeting for parents of
next year’s Sth grade students on
April 11 from 7:00 - 8:00. The
meeting will be held in the Jr. High
cafeteria.
Parents will have the opportunity
to meet the 6th grade faculty and
become acquainted with the school
itself. A short video program will be
shown along with curriculum pre-
sentations from the various depart-
ments at the junior high. Parents
will receive a hand-out explaining
the school supplies needed for next
year and how the adjustment from
elementary to junior high can be
made easier.
Parents are urged to attend if
possible. If parents have any que-
stion concerning the parent orienta-
tion, please contact the junior high at
865-5966.
Fayette Electric
Sponsors
Essay Contest
An essay contest in which the top
two writers will win an all-expense-
paid trip to Washington, D.C. this
summer will be held again this year
under the sponsorship of Fayette
Electric Cooperative.
The contest is open to area young
people between th eages of 14 and 19.
The fully-chaperoned and supervis-
ed trip via chartered bus with about
50 other young people from Texas
will depart for Washington on June
15 and return June 27.
The tour includes visits to historic
landmarks and visits with many
officials and personalities in govern-
ment Past tour participants have
called the tour a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity which provides mem-
orable and educational experiences
along with lasting friendsidpe.
Essays entered in the contest
should be approximately 1,000 words
in length and on a subject of general
or specific interest to rural electric
cooperatives. Deadline for submit-
ting essays is April 25, and winners
will be announced no later than May
10.
