versity of Alabama where he

After June 1 the couple will
return to Texas to make their

Payne, 612 Young, observed
their 50 th wedding anniver-
sary informally Sunday in the
home of his daughter, Mrs.
Lola Penaluna, 103 Red River
Street. Mrs. Penaluna’s bro-
ther, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest
Payne of Quanah helped with
the hospitalities.
Sally Lovell and Haywood
Payne were married May 1,
1919 at Henrietta. They moved
to Nocona where they have
resided all their married life.
Mr. Payne was a bootmaker,
beginning his career in 1915
with the late Joe Justin and
later was employed with No-
cona Boot Company until he
retired in 1944.
Other children of the couple I
include R. L. Payne, Shawnee,
Okla.; Mrs. Pete Harris, Gra-
ham; and Mrs. Joe Johnson,
Fort Worth.

studies on Countries ofSouth-
east Asia, Mrs. Richardson
spoke on “Indonesia” telling

-eligion, and the many changes
now taking place.
Mrs. C. E. Schooley gave
the Invocation, followed by
a hymn with Mrs. Lyle Saw-
yer at the piano.
Mrs. Jimmy Fitts, mission
study chairman, introduced
the speaker. The meeting was
closed with prayer by Mrs.
W. D. Craig.

The ten guests included
friends of the honoree from
Nocona and Decatur High
Schools. Place favors for the
senior girls were antique
gold - framed looking glass-
es mounted on mortar boards
inscribed with the girls’
names and graduation date.
A monogrammed gold pend-
ant was presented to the hon-
oree by the hostesses, Mrs.
Cecil R. Wood and Mrs. Al-
len Cocanougher of Decatur,
and Mrs. James Ross Sterl-
ing of Baytown. .
Special guests were the
mother, Mrs. Earl W. Nun-
neley of Nocona, and grand-
mother, Mrs. W. E. Nunneley
of Saint Jo. They received
gold monogrammed pins.
Karen has been active in
musical and dramatic activi-
ties in high school, and is
on the award - winning girls’
track team. She plans to enter
Texas Woman’s University in
Denton in September.

Scout* Will Hike
Members of Boy Scout
Troop No. 108 will hike out
to Lake Nocona Saturday
morning for an over night
camp-out, Scoutmaster Earl
Nunneley said this week. As-
sistant Scout Master Don
Sachse will also accompany
the group.
Thd camp-out will include
training in “limited rations”
and each boy will carry his
own food. They will be limited
to six pieces of bacon, six
eggs, four pieces of fruit, one *
package of concentrated fruit'
juice, one canteenof water and
one package of Bisquick. They
must cook one meal without
the use of cooking utensils.
The troop will leave the
First Baptist Church at 8
a.m. Saturday and will return
Sunday morning.
James Green, organist on
Donna’s Notebook of T. V.
Channel 6, Wichita Falls, pre-
sented a recital of popular
songs and hymns for Thurs-
day Literary Club’s guest day
last Thursday afternoon. Ap-
proximately 50 members and
guests were present.
“ Music For Relaxation”
was the program theme with
the quote for the day “Music
is the fourth great material
want of our nature; first food,
then raiment, then shelter,
then music.” by Christian N.
Bovee.
Mrs. Lyle Mercer, presi-
dent , presided.
Mrs. Frank Berry, club
musician and program chair-
man introduced the guest art-
ist and he in turn told some
interesting facts about him-
self. The organ was furnished
as a courtesy of Tom Mc-
Carthy Music Company, Wich-
ita Falls, with whom Mr.
Green is associated. Pamplets
on the Lowery and Hammond
organs were distributed.
Concluding the program was
a drawing for a number of
door prizes which were musi-
cal records.

Six-Year-Old
Seriously Hurt
Barry Golden, six-year-old
son of Mr. and Mrs. Bud
Golden of Ozona, former No-
cona residents, was critical-
•ly injured recently when his
bicycle was struck by a car,
according to information re-
ceived here.
The youngster is in Me-
morial Hospital, Room 371,
San Angelo, Texas, where he is
receiving treatment for head
injuries and underwent sur-
gery for three breaks in one
leg. He is expected to be in
traction four weeks and later
in a cast six weeks.
The accident occurred April
28 when a car struck the ped-
dle of Barry’s bicycle and
threw him 25 feet where he
hit the pavement on his head.
The Golden family lived in
Nocona until a short time
ago when Continental Oil Com-
pany transferred him to Big
Spring and then to Ozona. The
Goldens have four sons.
Barry would appreciate
hearing from his Nocona
friends.
