cotton markets declined last week,
according to the Production and
Marketing Administration, U. S.
Department of Agriculture.
Sales at Dallas, Houston and
Galveston dropped 13 per cent and
totaled 46,317 bales. Similar down-
ward trends showed up in the
week’s total sales at the country’s
ten spot markets.
Country cotton markets were
dull, too. Farmers put very few
lots up for sale. Equities were
down early in the week, but ad-
vanced some later. Some offers
were as high as $6 per bale in
central Texas.
Spot quotations for Middling
15/16 inch cotton climbed to 32.40
cents per pound at Dallas and Gal-
veston, and 32.45 cents at Houston
last Wednesday, but leveled off at
32.30 to 32.35 cents on Friday. This
is about $1.00 to $2.25 per bale
higher than a week ago at these
markets. On the corresponding day
last year, cotton was $1.25 per bale
higher at Dallas, but $1.50 lower
at Houston.
Commodity Credit Corporation
reports that Texas farmers have
placed 659,415 bales of cotton un-
der loan this season and redeemed
45,220. Oklahoma farmers have
placed 132,699 bales under loan
and redeemed 9,387.

Troop 2, Levelland Girl Scouts
met Tuesday afternoon at 4,3# at
the Hockley County Abstract
building. After a business meeting,
they discussed Safety Rules to be
observed while Hiking or making
a trail, and following one. They
also studied various ways to lay a
trail that could be easily follow-
ed.
At 5 o clock, Joy Richardson,
Jerrie Holt, Ivan Gressett, Annice
Copeland, Mary Jo Minor and Joan
Cummins, lead by their leader,
Mrs. Clark Pirtle, blazed a trail
which led to the park by marking
the turns with colored twine,
sticks and pebbles. Ten minutes
later the trail was followed by
Carolle Sikes, Jimmie Holt, Nancy
Herring, Betty Humphreys, Bar-
bara Jeffcoat and Kameilia Kling-
ensmith, led by Georgia Nell Sikes.
After a brief period of play in
the park, the group led by Miss
Sikes, blazed a trail back to the
point of beginning, which was fol-
lowed by the other group. Later
the group went to Furr Food
counter, where they had refresh-
ments and sang their parting song.
Badges Awarded
Mrs. Pirtle awarded Brownie
Fly-up wings to those of the troop
who had been Brownies before
becoming Girl Scouts, and award-
ed a “Ramble Badge” and “Hos-
tess Badge” to Nancy Herring and
a “Hostess Badge” to Mary Jo
Minor, who are both working for
First Class Ranks.
The Trail Blazing was the final
requirement for some of the girls
to become Second Class Scouts,
and those badges will be awarded
at the next meeting.
Next Meeting
The troop will meet again next
Tuesday at 4:30 at the Scout house
if weather permits and if not the

Wesleyan Service Guild Has First
Meeting Of Year At Mrs. Harral's
“A father gave his small son a
map of China which he had cut
into small pieces, telling him to
*put China together again’,” Mrs.
Marcus Kennedy told the Wesley-
an Service Guild of the First Me-
thodist church, Monday evening
when she reviewed the first half
of the book, “China—Twilight or
Dawn” by Frank W Price, at the
home of Mrs. R. C. Harral, presi-
dent of that organization.
“The Father was amazed when
his son soon called him to view the
finished picture, and asked the
youngster how he had completed
it so quickly," Mrs. Kennedy add-
ed.
“Why, Father,” exclaimed the
boy, “there was a picture ot a
Chinese man on the back so I just
put the man together and there
was China all set to rights.”
Mrs. Kennedy concluded her re-
view with the words, “Perhaps, it
would be well if we, as Christians
emulated the small boy, and start
putting the Chinese man back to-
gether again, and then China
would indeed emerge all ‘set to
rights’.”
Projects Discussed
At this, the first meeting of the
year for the Guild, new projects
were discussed and pledges were
made.
A committee, composed of Mrs.
Wyatt Hanks, Mrs. J. W. Smith
and Mrs. Kennedy was appointed
to pack duffel bags to be sent to
Europe.
It was also decided to serve the
meal to the Men’s Club at the next
meeting of that organization, and
the officers of the Guild were
asked to serve as a committee to
plan the menu.
Retiring President Honored
Mrs. Hanks, retiring president,
was presented with a gift of pot-
tery by Mrs. R. W. McVay, jr. on
behalf of the Guild, in apprecia-
tion of her service during the past
two years.
