Excellence in Art is to be attained only by con-
tinuity of active effort, not by passive impressions; by the
stalwart overcoming of difficulties; by patient struggle against
adverse circumstances; by the thrifty use of time and the
creating of opportunities.
The great Artists were not risen to eminence
through an immediate universal acclaim or by a sudden impact
upon the world. They attained to it by that course of tiring
labor and strict discipline and abiding courage which no one
need go to Rome or to Paris or to London to enter upon.
To each Exhibitor in La Fiesta of Art 1957 -
we urge you to labor untiringly, discipline yourself strictly,
struggle onward stalwartly, and you shall surely attain your
cherished objective.
