TO HOLD PICNIC SUNDAY

The Immaculate Conception Pa-
rish of Sealy will hold their an
nual celebration Sunday. Aug. 31,
at Firemen’s Park, Sealy. A de-
licious barbecue dinner will be
nerved at 11 a.m., with supper
being served at 5 p.m.
Bill Mraz will furnish music
for the dance at night.
Everyone is cordially invited to
attend.
Mrs. Geo. H. Ziess, of Bren-
ham, who will be remembered in
Austin County as the former Miss
Texanna Miller, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. T. B. Miller of Post Oak
Point, was agreeably surprised
when her brothers and sisters,
and one sister-in-law unexpected-
ly came to her home to honor her
on the special occasion of her 75th
birthday anniversary on Aug. 19,
1958. ,
The group all gathered around
the large dining table and remin-
isced about many special events
of the past, as well as of the
children, grandchildren, etc., at
the same time enjoying delicious
cake and other tasty food and
coffee.
The afternoon passed away
very quickly and was enjoyed by
all present. ,
The following were on hand
for this special occasion: Mr.
Geo. H. Zeiss Sr., of Brenham,
Mrs. T. A. Pophanken of New
Ulm, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Miller
of Bryan, Dr. A. C. Miller of Car-
mine and Miss Dessie Miller of
Post Oak Point.

Volley Ball Tournament
The Win Area Volley
Tournament will be held in Nel-
sonville next Sunday, August 31,
at the V. M. B. church. There will
be a program beginning al 2 p.m.
Hot dogs and cold drinks will
be available. Come out and bring
vour team and help them enjoy
the day. Everyone is invited to
come and have fun.
Church Services
The services held here at ' the
< MB church last Sunday by Rev.
Frank Svoboda of Taylor, were
well attended. The slides taken
on his trip to Czechoslovakia last
year were enjoyed by all, espec-
ially the older people that eame
from that part.
The congregation regrets that
Rev. Svoboda will no longer be
our minister, as they are leaving
for New York. Mrs. Svoboda has

Allen Conklin and Earl Pomy-
kal took Pvt. Roger Pomykal to
Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, last Fri-
day. Roger was on a 15 day
leave and bad to report back to
Fort Chaffee.. They also intend
ed to visit Pvt. Alvin Borman
Jr., as he was reported being in
the hospital last week, but at that
time he was already released and
back on duty. They did not get
to see him.
Mr. and Mrs. Lad Kamas and
Nadine of Texas City, were on
their vacation last week. They
visited with the Kamas family
here and also had a chance pick-
ing some cotton on the farm. They
isited other relatives here in
Brenham, NeJaouville, and took a
short trip to San Antonio, New
Braunfels, San Mareos, and Aus-
tin. They were accompanied by
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Stalmach
and Joyce. They also took the
Stalmachs to Texas City and Gal-
veston Beaeh.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Brau and
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brau were
in Woodsboro, visiting their rela-
tives, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Beck
and Mrs. Ida Kroll, who came
here with them to visit with her
relatives. She is a sister of Mrs.
Arthur Brau and Mr. Edgar Sie-
bel. They were also in Corpus
Christi.

Weimar Veterans’ 13th annual
Pre-Labor Day Celebration, Sun-
day, Aug. 31, at Veterans’ Mem-
orial Park in Weimar.
Kicking off the day’s
will be a trail ride from La
Grange to Weimar, the riders ar-
riving in time for the noon meal.
Barbecue chicken and hot sausage
will be served, beginning at 11
a m. with a supper at 5 p.m.
Plenty of amusements and re-
freshments will be available dur-
ing the day with free rides for
the kiddies. A dance at night
will climax the event, with mus-
ic by Jureeka’s orchestra.

Mrs. George A. Vasieek of Rt. 1,
New Ulm, Texas, graduated from
recruit training Aug. 16, at the
Naval Training Center, Great
Lakes, 111.
The graduation exercises, mark
ing the end of nine weeks of
•‘boot camp-” included a full
dress parade and review before
military officials and civilian dig-
nitaries.
In nine weeks of instruction,
the “raw recruit.” is developed
into a Navy Bluejacket, ready
for duty with the fleet.

Mrs. Malinda Brinkmeyer, now
employed in Houston, was here
at borne for a few days. She also
had her little granddaughter, Al-
licia Baea, with her.
Mr. and Mrs. Roland Baldwin
and Kim of Texas City, spent last
Friday and Saturday at the farm
with the Steve Kamas family.
They also took two sons Eugene
and David home, who had stayed
with the grandparents, of course,
to pick cotton. Their mother al-
so picked cotton as she did the
past years.
Birthday Party
Mr. and Mrs. Lad Kamas of
Texas City honored their daugh-
ter, Nadine, with a birthday par-
ty last Wednesday night at the
Firemen's Park in Brenham on
her sixth birthday. A wiener
roast, potato chips, cookies, and
a nice decorated birthday cake
made by her cousin, Carol Sue
Pomykal, was enjoyed by a group
of relatives. Everyone remember
cd Nadine with a gift and wished
her many more happy birthdays.
