Annual sale of Buddy Pop-
pies by the Veterans of Foreign
Wars will be staged in Electra
on Friday, May 19, according to
Post Commander Don Brewer.
Mayor Curtis Weddle has
proclaimed Friday as Buddy
Poppy Day in Electra, urging
“all patriotic citizens to wear a
Buddy Poppy as mute evidence
of our gratitude to those of this
country who have risked their
lives in defense of the freedoms
which we continue to enjoy as
American citizens.”
Buddy Poppies are assembled
by disabled veterans and the
proceeds of the sale are used
for the benefit of disabled
and needy veterans as well as
, their widows and orphans. Basic-
purpose ol tne annual sale is to
honor the dead by helping the
living.
Commander Brewer said post
and auxiliary members will be
out in the community on Friday
offering the poppies for sale.
The annual Memorial Day
service at Electra Memorial
Park will be held at 11 a.m.
on Monday, May 29, by the
post and auxiliary. Residents
are encouraged to bring lawn
chairs and attend this annual
event.

Cecil Bowden
Arrested On
Drug Charges
Cecil Boyd Bowden, Jr., 46,
w'as arrested Monday by Elec-
tra Police at 616 North Main
Street for manufacture or deliv-
ery of a controlled substance in
penalty group I over 400 grams,
first degree felony and posses-
sion of marijuana less than two
ounces, a class B misdemeanor
charge.
He was transported to Wi-
chita County Jail in lieu of
$ 1,500,000 bond for the first de-
gree felony charge, and $10,000
for the class B misdemeanor
charge.
Lt. Alan Boyd, Interim Chief
of Police, said on Monday,
Electra Police Officers detected
a strong odor of anhydrous
ammonia in the 600 block of
North Main, and officers were
able to trace the odor back to
a residence at 616 North Main.
After further investigation a
search warrant was obtained,
and at approximately 2 a.m.
Officers executed the warrant
and during the search^approx-
imatcly 70 grams of a white
powdery substance which tested
positive for methamphetamine
and approximately 300 grams of
a white powdery substance be-
lieved to be methamphetamine
w'as located inside the residence.
Numerous components of a
“Nazi Meth Lab”’ were seized
along with other items used to
facilitate the sale, distribution
and manufacture of metham-
phetamine as well as approxi-
mately four VCRs, three TVs,
six car stereos, two home enter-
tainment systems, nine speak-
ers, two satellite receivers, four
surveillance cameras, 12 stereo
components, four guns and other
miscellaneous electronic items
believed to be acquired through
illegal narcotic transactions.

trustees took the oath of of-
fice when trustees of Electra In-
dependent School District met
Tuesday at 5 p.m. to honor
students and conduct the May
board meeting.
Kay Whisnand and Sherie
Rondeau were administered the
oath of office as incoming
board members, and retiring
board member Shawn Matthews
was presented a plaque in
Reviewed Bv EISD Trustees
appreciation of his service on
the board from 1997 to 2000.
