Dear Editor
On behalf of the Electra
Chamber of Commerce, I would
like to take this opportunity
to thank everyone involved Ibr
their contribution to the success
of the Electra Goat Bar-B-Q
this past Friday and Saturday.
We had 41 cooks and 15 vendors,
which is remarkable considering
the other events happening
this weekend. The cookoff was
again sanctioned by the Lone
Star Barbecue Society and
continues to bring recognition
to Electra. Chuck Hall from
Kennewick, Washington, called
to request t-shirts and hats and
recommend the proper wine to

day, May 18, marks the com-
, munity’s observance of Na-
tional Preservation Week 2000.
To The Editor
There is a saying that ad-
versity brings out the best in
people. This was evident many
times last week in our schools.
Our students did a wonderful
job of caring for and comforting
each other. The staff demon-
strated their love and concern
for our students repeatedly dur-
ing several very difficult days.
Our local ministers were unbe-
lievable. They were at the high 'lhe event is the a wards presen
school at a moment’s notice on
Monday. They returned Tues-
day to continue to assist us as

More Texas students are graduating
The number of students graduating from high school in Texas has
been on the rise for the past five years. The 1998-99 school year saw

We anticipated rain on Wedncs
day because that was open-
ing day for the Santa Rosa
Roundup. Clouds were evident
as this was being written on
Tuesday night. It has become
a tradition in Electra to ex-
pect rain when the palominos
are performing in Vernon. We
are sure those in Vernon would
welcome the rain along with the
annual rodeo parade and events.

Pray Together Tor Tain .
While city officials continue to seek solutions to the .
problem of providing water for the citizens of Electra,
one group is encouraging citizens to»join together each
week in praying for rain.
Christians, pastors, and everyone concerned about the
continued lack of area rainfall are gathering each Friday
at noon in front of the City Hall, corner of Main and
Cleveland.
Organizers encourage everyone to join in this effort.
“Water is becoming more scarce and we are in dire need
for rain.”
To the thieves who stole
our wood:
We are old and crippled; we
worked to get that wood and you
stole it. I’ll be willing to wager
that if you have ever had to
haul wood, you wouldn’t have
appropriated ours.
We have never had anything
stolen from our goat BBQ site
until now.
We wish that we could have
caught you in the act. If you
had asked, we would have given
it to you.
The Goat BBQ is all about
friendship and family fun and it
is not fun when someone steals
