OFF THE CUFF-Since this
column is in bits and pieces
(mostly pieces) this week, we
thought we might throw in another
quick work of praise for the Ladies
Golf Association. It was our
pleasure to participate in their
annual "He and She Scramble”
this past weekend at Electra
Country Club. The ladies put on
one of the best tourneys I’ve
played in this summer...most
enjoyable.
My partner was Lis Crow and
we had a good time even though
Danny and Mary Laura Slappy
edged us out of the prize win-
nings. Lis is originally from
Germany, and, of course, speaks
fluent German...a fact I found out
when she hit her drive into No. 3
creek.
Speaking of No. 3 creek, I also
. knocked a ball into the trees at the
comer of that watery grave. It was
a Top-Flight No. 7 and it had my
name imprinted on it. To whoever
finds that little critter, I’m offering
a two-cent reward for its return
and $10 reward for the removal of
that particular tree....with suffi-
cient supporting evidence proving
it was the correct tree.
It’s times like those that I
wished I knew a little German.

Wives have been referred to by
some as right arms and whoever
coined that phrase was right on
target. I’ve been without my
"right arm” during this newspap-
er week, while she stayed with her
mother who had surgery.
Without my “right arm” this
column wasn’t written until late
Tuesday night...breaking my own
deadline for having copy into the
typesetter. I intended to have it in
earlier, but somehow things
around the office just didn’t go
right without the “right arm”
being at home.
If it hadn’t been for a cute little
granny and a golf-playing papa
watching out for and keeping an
eye on the two kiddos, this edition
might be next week’s. We would
like to say thanks to my Mom and
Dad for helping us out this week
and issue a "Get Well Quick” to
the mother-in-law.
