.Electra Star-News building destined for demolition. The blaze totally destroyed the section
'of the newspaper building which opened onto Bryan Avenue and once was part of the Star ““
Cash Hardware Store. It is believed that the northwest corner of the destroyed building
was originally a blacksmith shop, and later expanded to Bryan as part of the hardware
store which fronted on Waggoner Street. The building which burned had been used for
storage in recent years. A fire door separating the storage area from the newspaper building
which opens onto Waggoner was closed and the newer building received only minor smoke
and water. Publishers Teddie and Jeannette Miller expressed appreciation to the firemen,
crediting their efforts in containing the fire to the one building. Fire investigators believe
the fire was a result of an electrical short circuit.
