Paul Nicholson who claims to be
the first stuge actor to appear In
motion pictures that was In 1707
has returned to the screen after
a yenr's absence.
The first people to play parts
on the sci ten were truck drivers
waitresses telephone girls delivery
boys and others who wnnted to
make a little money en the side
Nicholson said.
However he claims to be the
first stage actor drafted Into pic-
tures by the late Wallace Mc-
Cutcheon. who wrote directed
and produced the first motion
pictures shown In regular theaters.
The first public showing of a
motion picture occurred In 18'J."
when the projection machine wus
perfected. In 180C. pictorial sub-
jects were shown on the screen In
vaudeville houses Nicholson said.
The following year he made his
debut In the first picture that
tried to tell a dramatic story he
said. Dri.matlc motion picture
history Is written from the time
of "The Kiss Scene" the first box-
office hit. which starred John C

had been working before that.

south HI Paso stores on Saturday
when "penny beggar" make their
weekly visit asking proprietors for
only 1-ccnt.
The beggars ate old women ull
past CO some near the century
mark. They cover regulnr "beats"
on Saturdays among the stores
asking for their one penny.
Oddly faithful to the sum of
l-ccnt they will carefully count
out the change If given a nlcltol
or any other coin larger than a
penny. Every clothing store book
company or bakery shop makes Its
weekly contribution to the "men-
dlgas del ccntavo."
The old women accumulate about
23 cents on their Saturday alms
pilgrimage. They live on this sum
ull week.
