POSTSCRIPT
It was on this date in 1899
that one of the coldest out-
breaks on record descended
deep into Texas. Shreveport
recorded its record low of
minus-5 degrees Fahrenheit,
and the cold reached all the
way to the Gulf Coast, freez-
ing over much of Galveston
Bay. Makes me feel even
better about that forecast
high for today of 70 degrees.
Here’s hoping that’s what the
rest of our winter looks like.

From 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. the court
will be open for Stimulus Day,
held annually to motivate traf-
fic offenders to get outstanding
fines and warrants off the city’s
books.
Municipal Court Judge
Rickey Turner announced the
fifth annual event Tuesday
night at the Henderson City
Council meeting. The day is
designed to let those with out-
standing warrants and fines
pay them without recourse.
Whatever a person pays, the
court will match. If there are
any fines left, the court will
work out a payment plan.
There will be three clerks,
two volunteers, Turner and a
hired police officer working
through the day.
The first Stimulus Day in
2011 generated more than
$38,000 in unpaid fines and
each event since has saved
over $30,000 for those citi-
zens. This year, Turner is hop-
ing for around $45,000.
For those who can’t afford
to throw a big chunk of change
onto their fines, another
option is community service,
but those who do show up
and have City of Henderson
