POSTSCRIPT
Earlier this week, a news-
paper acquaintance called.
He lives on the north side
of Chicago and had just
returned from a visit to Dal-
las. First words out of his
mouth: “How do you all do
it?” He was asking about the
“heat wave,” and I told him
this is pretty much par for the
course through July. Anyway,
we get off better compared to
a Chicago winter.

Jackie Risinger didn’t give a
second thought that any of his
cattle would ever be stolen.
“I never thought it would
have happened to me,” he said.
Back in October of 2014, four
men from Nacogdoches came
onto his land, broke into his
pasture and stole his livestock.
A day or so later at around
10 a.m. on a Thursday morning,
Risinger went out to his pasture
in Mount Enterprise and saw
some damage.
“I drove out to my pasture,
saw a lock cut, saw gates twist-
ed around my lot and I thought,
this is not right,” he said. “I
drove in the pasture and saw
a calf bellying for his momma
and knew somebody had loaded
my cattle.”
He then reported the theft
to the Rusk County Sheriffs
Department and the case was
turned over to Investigator Ben
Reynolds. Reynolds suggested

Henderson saw the mercury
reach too degrees Thursday
afternoon, the first time in near-
ly two years the official high has
been in triple digits.
Last weekend, some parts
of Rusk County did get to the
century mark, but on Thursday
the measuring station at Rusk
County Airport hit too degrees.
The last time Rusk County
official saw too degrees was
Sept. 7, 2013.
Some parts of the county did
receive rain from isolated thun-
derstorms during the past few
days.
There’s no rain in the Nation-
al Weather Service forecast for
the next several days. Highs are
forecast to be slightly cooler
the next couple of days - 96
today and 98 Saturday - but are
expected to return to near too
next week.
Tonight’s low is forecast to
drop to near 69.
The month of July has been
exceptionally dry, considering
how wet 2015 was through the
end of June.
Henderson recorded nearly
45 inches of rain through the
first six months of the year, but
July has been hot and dry.
NWS reports 0.28 inches of
rain so far this month. That’s
compared to a year ago when
Henderson received 5.42 inches.
