If approved, the bond issue
will purchase right-of-way for
a major highway network in
the county. Brazoria County
citizens will spend $6.9 Mil-
lion for right-of-way . . .
at the same time the Texas
Highway Department will
match these right-of-way
funds and will spend, in all,
an estimated $59,250,000 to
con truct the highways.
What this tremendous un-
dertaking may mean in costs
to the average property own-
er has also been carefully
studied by the program’s
backers They say that the
ownci of a $10,000 home will
pay about $1.72 per year in
additional county taxes, or 14
cents per month. By this
scale, small business and
homeowners will carry 12.8
per cent of the tax bill while
industry pays the remaining
87.2 percent.
Alvinites will vote at the
three regular polling places:

Hillcrest Village officials
have established Saturday,
June 11. as 1 dog day' .
but the designation perhaps
doesn’t mean what you think!
The date will be the day when
every dug In the village will
be vaccinated against rabies,
officials hope.
Dr. Beryl Cline, local
veterinarian, will be on hand

late all dogs brought to him
at the temporary station on
the earner of Sherwood and
Riverside. Mr. and Mrs. Lew-
is Overstreet have provided
their garage for this purpose.
Hillcrest Village believe
that the urgency of having all
dogs vaccinated is of major
concern this year. There is
always more rabies in the
summer months, they say. and
this year (here has already
been a positive diagnosis of
rabies in a skunk which at-
tacked a dog.
While this did not occur
in Hillcrest Village, officials
pointed out that the village
location is adjacent to rural

it shows, there were 40 fatal

16 of them attributed to motor
vehicles. Included were all ac-
