Music Theatre To
Show Daytona 500
Live On Giant TV
One ofthe year’s most spec-
tacular auto racing events is
coming to the Houston area
live, direct from the Daytona
International Speedway via
circuit television.
A giant screen has been
installed at th< Houston Mu-
sic Theatre to carry the 1969
running of the Daytona 500,
the world’s fastest stock car
race. A field of 50 of th.
fastest steck cars driven by
internationally famous driv-
ers will be competing for
more than $200,000 in prize
money.
Th. race is over 500i iiles,
200 laps of the2.5 mile trioval
track layout. The 60 foot wide
high banked track has two 1,
000 foot radius turns at the
east and west ends of the
course with 31 degree banks
and an 18 degree banked turn
at the start-finish line. There
is a 4,000 foot back st ret. h
straight and two f rent
straightaways, each 1,350feet
long. The official one lap rec-
ord for the track, held by
Cale Yarborough, is 189.801
mph, set in 1968. The .'>00
mile record, set by Richard
Petty in 1966, is 160.627mph.
Alvin's Yellowjackets came
in for a close half with the
Pearland Oilers last Friday,
and for th. first part of the
ball game, it locked like the re
just might be an upset.

Take Anahuac
Two Straight
Alvin High School Girl’s
Volleyhallers roa red onto the
court last Friday, takingdown
Anahuac High School in a no
contest game that resulted in
a doubl- win for the A and B
teams.
The girls have met little
or no competition in the area
during the season and F rldav's
bout was no exception.
The B team, playing first,
won the game with two out of
three wins and then retired
letting the A team play their
spiking game.
SpUmg works well for the
Alvin girls as they tore Into
the home team and left the
court at the end of the first
match with 15-2 tucked under
their belts.
Two out of two is game,
and Alvin took the second with
just a little more competition
than the first, slipping by the
hometown team 15-7.
In the second game, the
Alvin girls spread things a-
round a little more, depending
on speed and agility to ease
over the opposing team for a
double straight win.
