The recent tragic fire at Hill-
crest Convalescent and Nursing
home, in Hillcrest addition, left
the people of this community
saddened. The accident was the
most unusual imaginable. Truck
loaded with Butane Gas, that
was driverless, headed straight
to the main entrance of the
Home. Fire was raging immedi-
ately thru halls and many
rooms, but despite the fumes,
heat and general confusion,
nearly all the patients were res-
cued. Five fatalities have re-
sulted from the fiery holocost
Mrs. Sorrels of Electra; Mrs.
Maud Barker of Bonham, Miss
Hunt of Jacksboro, Mrs. Hop-
per of Muskogee, Oklahoma and
Fred Maxie of Electra. . . . Hill-
crest was operated under the
ownership of Dr. John J. Thom-
pson, John McKelvey, Attor-
ney and Walter Blevins, Presi-
dent and general manager. Dr.
Thompson tells the Tattler the
Convalescent and Nursing home
will be rebuilt, Brick construc-
tion, Colonial in design, increas-
ed facilities for making the new
place homelike, with larger, liv-
ing room fireplaces, Recreation
rooms,
caring for a larger number of j
patients, modern thruout. . . . 1
