for the De Leon Chamber of Com-
merce and Agriculture and
Women’s Division annual meeting
and banquet.
To be held at PAR Country Club
on Monday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m., the
banquet’s activities will be high-
lighted by the naming of winners
of the Man of the Year, Woman
of the Year, and Golden Deeds
awards.
Thursday is the last day to make
a nomination for one of these
awards. Nominations by telephone
will not be accepted. To make a
nomination, contact the Chamber
office.
Guest speaker for the banquet is
Dr. Jerry DeHay, Tarleton State
University professor.
52nd County Livestock
Show In Progress
It’s livestock show time again
this week as local youth will be in
Comanche for the county show
Wednesday through Friday.
Plan to attend the sale of the
show animals Friday night at
McDougal’s Auction Bam, begin-
ning at 7:00 p.m.

The show on Friday morning will
begin at 8:30 a.m. with the beef
heifers. After a break, the market
steers will be judged.
The 29th annual auction sale will
highlight the livestock show. It
begins at 7 p.m. Friday at
McDougal’s Auction Bam.
Probation Revoked
For Caves
In District Court last week,
Judge James Morgan revoked a
probated eight-year Texas Depart
ment of Corrections sentence
against Jan Juanita Cavus of De
Leon. She was originally con-
victed on a 1983 robbery charge,
and the probation was revoked
after a DWI charge, plus failure to
meet probation requirements.
Judge Morgan presided over a
number of civil hearings,
arraignments, and the swearing
in of a grand jury panel. The
grand jurors, who will serve six
months, are expected to begin
hearings Jan. 26.
Comanche County’s 52nd Annual
Junior Livestock Show got under-
way Wednesday and continues
through Friday at the county live-
stock show bam in Comanche for
the county’s FFA and 4-H
members.
A total of 497 animals are being
shown by 279 exhibitors in the
three-day show, which includes 59
market steers, 169 market lambs,
157 market swine, eight breeding
swine, 12 breeding sheep, 20
Angora goats, 22 beef heifers, and
50 dairy heifers.
The dairy heifers got things
underway Wednesday. Judging
was set to begin at 11:00 a.m. with
Ninety-one exhibitors from the
De Leon Future Farmers of
America and 4-H Clubs showed 166
animals Saturday at the De Leon
Project Show. Judge was James
Parker, Vocational Agriculture
teacher from Clyde.
Entries included 17 steers, 30
lambs, 99 market swine, seven
breeding swine, Tour beef heifers,
one breeding sheep, one dairy
heifer, and eight Angora goats.
Starting off the morning was the
breeding swine division. Wendy
Dutton had the Grand Champion
and Leslie Morris, the Reserve
Grand Champion.
Grand Champion Market Swine
was the Champion Hampshire
shown by Jim Cogburn. Paul Burk
had the Reserve with his
Champion Cross.
Leslie Morris had both the Grand
Champion and Reserve Angora
Goats.
In the market lamb show, Mike
Mahan exhibited the Grand
Champion with his Champion
Medium Wool, while Laurie
I Jndsey had the Reserve Grand
Champion with the Reserve
Champion Medium Wool.
Greg Priddy showed the Grand
Champion Beef Helfer, with
Andrea Robinett showing the
Reserve Grand Champion
In the steer show, David Welch's
Champion European Cross was
named the Grand Champion, with
Mike Mahan’s Reserve Champion
European Cross named the
Reserve Grand Champion.
Showmanship award winners
were: Scott Tucker for swine,
Leslie Morris for goats, Beth Beaty
for sheep, and Mike Mahan for
beef cattle.
An anonymous businessman
donated 8200 for a drawing among
the exhibitors, and Jason Johnson
was the winner.
