Flatonia, Muldoon VFDs
put out propane tank fire
A 911 call reporting a propane
tank on fire at a residence at 3641
Elm Creek Road in the Flatonia
area was received by the Fayette
County Sheriff’s Office on Tues-
day, July 5 around 6:32 p.m., ac-
cording to Sheriff Keith Korenek.
It was reported that the propane
tank was hooked to a portable
grill and was under the eave of
the residence.
dispatched to 3 fires
Causes include bird in utilities, person burning wasp nest
between Burke Road and Pavlica
Road for a grass fire that covered
less than half an acre.
“There was sparse grass, but the
fire got across a fence and there
was brush on the other side of the
fence,” Robinson said.
The fire was brought under
control in about 5 minutes by the
eight firefighters who responded
in two trucks.
FF&R cleared the scene at
6:44 p.m.
On Sunday, July 10, four grass
fires in the median of Interstate 10
about 4 to 5 miles east of Flatonia
were extinguished by FF&R.
The di spatch came at 12:25 p.m.
to mile markers 665-666.
“The biggest one was probably
an acre,” Robinson said. “Alto-
gether, the fires covered maybe a
little over 2 to 2Vi acres.”
Three of the grass fires were in
a row in proximity to each other
and the fourth was a little farther
away, he said.
“The fires were contained in the
median which helps quite a bit,”
Robinson said. “One was in an area
where trees are, so that one took a
little longer to mop-up.”
The cause of the fires was un-
determined.
Six trucks and 12 firefighters
worked the scene. Time cleared
was 1:27 p.m.
Flatonia Fire & Rescue re-
sponded to three grass fire calls
from July 7-10, with all the fires
brought under control shortly after
firefighters arrived on scene.
On Thursday, July 7, Flatonia
Fire & Rescue was dispatched at
5:17 p.m. to 6521 Anchor Ranch
Loop for a grass fire covering
about a half acre, according to Fire
Marshal Gregg Robinson.
A bird that got into power lines
appeared to be the cause.
“The bird got into a capacitor
bank or a transformer bank and it
shorted out and caused sparks,”
Robinson said. “That caused the
fire - that’s what it looked like.”
Four trucks and 10 firefighters
responded.
“We had the fire under control in
about 5 minutes,” Robinson said.
“We spent another 10 minutes for
mop-up and then we made sure
we had the perimeter wet-lined.”
The electric provider was noti-
fied, and Flatonia Fire & Rescue
cleared the scene at 6 p.m.
On Saturday, July 9, a grass fire
was caused by a person trying to
bum a wasp nest, according to
Robinson.
FF&R was paged at 6:19 p.m.
to Highway 95 north of Flatonia
