Despite a game-high 17 points from Demver Young (21), the Alvin Lady Yellowjackets dropped
a 51-39 decision to league-leading Dawson here, Tuesday night.
The Co-hosting Manvel Mavericks
headed the area performances at the an-
nual AISD Swim Classic last weekend
with a fifth place in the boys’ division.
Patrick Meador claimed runner-up
honors in diving at 397.80 as did Jack
Armstrong in the 100-yard butterfly
(58.02 seconds), Adriel Sanes in the
100 backstroke (55.58) and the 200
freestyle relay of John Habermas, Con-
nor Stewart, Damian Sambrano and
Armstrong (136.69).
The Mavs were also fourth in the 200
medley relay with Stewart, Habermas,
Sambrano and Armstrong (1:48.21)
and seventh in the 400-yard free re-
lay behind Jake Williams, Taylor Ngo,
Gabriel Sanes and Ahmed Elsayes
(3:59.62) and Sambrano was 10th in
the boys’ 100 butterfly (1:03.29).
The Co-hosting Alvin Lady Yellow-
jackets took eighth in the girls’ division
with a fifth place by Samantha Burt,
Miranda Ganyard, Lindsey Rogan and
Samantha McChesney in the 200-yard
medley relay (2:08.26). McChesney
and Jada Rhodes' drive to the
basket got Alvin back on the
board. However, Dawson took
a 24-19 edge into the dress-
ing room and outscored the
Lady Jackets by a 14-6 margin
during the third period to in-
crease their lead to 38-25 into
the fourth.
The Alvin Girls have a bye
in their schedule this weekend
and next play Sam Rayburn,
Jan. 26 in Pasadena at 7 p.m.
