Sheri and I are very pleased
to announce the birth of our first
grandson, Austin Clay Weaver,
incident.
I had been worrying that the
authorities might actually suc-
cumb to the threat and meet the
extortionists’ cash demands. If
so, that would have doubtlessly
inspired others to try the same
ploy. Thank goodness it didn’t
publicly to the demands of a
bloodthirsty extortionist.
It turns out that the authori-
ties were lucky. A few leads, one
apparently provided by the
shooter himself, finally pointed
authorities toward the arrested
duo. Even after they believed
they had identified the prime sus-
pects, there was still the problem
of apprehension. Here again they
were lucky when a trucker spot-
ted the vehicle in only a few hours
and, with the 1
trucker, blocked the vehicle in
October 28, 1982. Election
day was announced along with
candidates.

Apology
We received a call this last
weekend strongly suggesting that a
statement of correction and apolo-
gy was in order. The unidentified
caller stated that he and others
were getting ready to go vote at
City Hall on Sunday afternoon
when he found out that only music
was being played there. Sunday
voting was available only at the
County Courthouse in Comanche.
Although we believe that a
careful reading of our last week’s
front page article will provide the
proper information about when
and where to cast early ballots, we
can also see where one might gain
a mistaken impression.
For that lack of clarity we at
the Free Pness do offer our apolo-
gy and hope that we can do better
next time.
