majority to have the dub meet twice
monthly. Free Press ‘ suggests that
meetings be held twice monthly so
long as the club has vital projects up
for consideration. Whdn nothing of
immediate importance is before the
dub the matter may be brought up
and a vote taken to fix meeting date
back on the original ^schedule, of once

Board to Meet Next Tuesday
. The advancement car-
ried with it a good increase in salary.

Saturday afternoon, last, fire ori-
ginated around a defective fluei in the
City Barber Shop where water was ,
kept hot for use in the shop and be-
fore it could be brought under control
four buildings and five separate busi-
ness concerns had suffered damage,
either from fire, water or smoke. The
fire was dLscovered by a customer in
the Free Press office Tuesday1 even-
ing, Ajpril 10th, for the purpose of
completing the organization, drafting
a simple constitution and by laws
which will be submitted to the next
meeting and of outlining civic pro-
jects toward which the club may
work. The board will also decide as
to the next meeting date.
Any citizen having a worthwhile
project to suggest and which you are
willing to work to help put over, talk
the matter over with members of the
advisory board before next Tuesday,
and have the matter written on the
l uncheon Club slate.

ly given and the response of the fire
department was almost instantaneous
Actual fire damage resulted only in
the City Barber Shop building, and
their damage to fixtures was not
great. No insurance was earned.
J. T. Edmondson’s stock of tatter-
ing goods, together with shop fix-
tures. was considerably damaged by
smoke and water.
Mrs. J. T. Edmondson’* Millinery
and gift shop suffered almost total
loss, the dainty garments being smok-
ed and water-soaked. Both the Ed-
mondson’s carried insurance.

luge of water that was poured

man March 16th-17th, Mr.

The election judges threw out 14
ballots because of their being muti-
lated. Reason.- some voted for only
' one, some voted for all and sofne
marked out names on ballot ihstead of

A total of 326 votes were cast, 14
being thrown out and 312 were count-
! ed. This was a record vote, city e.lec-

Next Monday, April 9, lias been set
as the date of the annual business
meeting of De Leon Volunteer Fire
Department. All Firemen and other
interested are urged to be present.
The Luncheon Club held its second meeting at noon,
Tuesday at the Lester Hotel and the attendance was equal
to the first meeting held two weeks previously: Forty-five
men assembled around the banquet board and after the
meal Mayor Haskins, temporary chairman, 2-
meeting to order and a
___ A nominating committee of five,
consisting of A A. Hansford, W. E.
Howell, Sr., W. W. Nance, W. P.
Weaver and R.W. Brannon, were ask-
ed to report and handed in the names
of five whom they placed in nomina-
tion as ofifeers and seven names for-a -J
board of advisors. The names were
read and the ticket voted upon as a
whole, carrying unanimously. The of-
ficers chosen to serve the new organ-
ization are:
President Dr. A. M. Allen, first-
president, R. L. Scott; second vice-
t“.” president Jeff Tate; third-vice presi-
dent, John Weaver; secretary C. E.
George; treasurer M. D. Stewart. The
board of advisors chosen are E. W.
Owen, W. H. Williams, Otis Harvey,
~ . J. T. Edmondson, Hiram Smith, B. J.

Wednesday night shortly after nine
o’clock a wind storm wrecked the
hortfe of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Gris-
ham, three-fourts of a mile south-
west of the village of Ruclqer. They
were alone in the house when the
- storm cloud was approaching and
heard a low humming noice so pecu-
liar that their attention was attracted
by it. A moment later the swirling
wind struck and the building was torn
into shreds, They extricated them-
selves from the wreckage with some
difficulty and made their way thru
~ the blinding rain to the house of a
neighbor less than half a mile away
and were given shelter and attention.
It was found tliat Mr. Grisham’s

and Mrs. Grisham was slightly injur-
ed on, one lower limb. Otherwise
their injuries were slight.
The house, was a complete wreck.
. All the upper portion was demolish-
ed and the floor was slid off the
foundation and lodged against a con-
crete well curb in the yard. Two
* barn*, a hundred yards in each di-
rection, being 200 yards apart, were
also demolished. All the furniture in
the house except a cedar chest, was

June and July and hopes to meet the
votes and personally solicit their
faithful ones gathered and the service
was held as usual. Pastor Richeson
has preached a series of searching ser-
mons. The church has been strength-
ed. The ingathering has not been
large but more are expected thru
the channel of the Sunday school and
Leagues before the i
shall have closed.
Stephenville Choir Came
Last Sunday night Rippetoe quar-
tette was invited and came, giving
half a dozen or more special numbers
and Mr. Rippetoe directed the choir.
The house was packed for this service
Monday evening brought another
capacity audience when the splendid
choir of fifty voices from the First
Methodist church at Stephenville, di-
rected by Prof. Chas. Froh, came and
furnished the music for the evening I .support he states,
services. This highly trained and well ' ...

vice and thrilled the large audience i
with a number of excellent choruses.
There were some thirty women and
twenty men in the chorus and no
greater musical number has been pre-
sented here in the recollection of the
writer. Prof. Froh is certainly a
genius in his line, and there were '
many outstanding vocalists in his
every line when they come to De Leon Suturdsiy &nd Mon**
day, April 7th and 9th- Hardly a store but has an attrac-
tive list of offerings listed on the Big Dollar Day Spread
in the center fold of this paper. Hardly a line of wanted
and seasonable merchandise but one can find listed just
the article desired—and at a reduction in regular prices.
