relevant in today’s world ...
“Woe to those who call evil
good, and good evil; Who put
darkness for light, and light for
darkness; Who put bitter for
sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe
to those who are wise in their
own eyes, And prudent in their
own sight.” Now this verse can
be used to interpret today’s
society on many topics, but for
this column I believe it is also
correct among our theologies
regarding the goodness of God
or the lack of it according to our
own understanding.
There are damaging doctrines
of men that have twisted the true
nature of God and said that God
plans and allows trials and
tribulations and sicknesses and
destruction to come upon us.
Just because He said we will
have them does not mean He is
the one who causes or allows
them to happen.
Love is not self seeking —
God will not put you through a

tragedy to glorify Himself. He
fulfilled His divine purpose
when He sent Jesus to make
atonement in His own body for
us. He glorifies His Son, and the
Son glorifies the Father. It is no
longer a mystery. God wants
you well.
Remember, Love “is patient,
kind, does not envy, does not
boast, is not proud or rude and is
not self-seeking nor easily
angered, it keeps no record of
wrongs, it doesn’t not delight in
evil but rejoices with the truth. It
always protects, always trusts,
always hopes and always
perseveres.” 1 Cor. 13
These are not the
characteristics of a God who
would allow bad things to
happen. Other people here have
free will along with you and I,
and we all make wrong choices,
and we are living in a fallen
world. Stuff happens.
By His own free will God
chooses to be good.
Jesus is our living example of
God’s “will be done on earth as
it is in heaven.”
He was “God in the flesh”
appropriating His will wherever
and to whomever would believe
and receive. The “express image
of God.”
For example, in the area of
healing here are just a few verses
that God left for us to follow. I
am narrowing them down for
Would you want to know the will of God in your life?
Since I was a child I have
heard countless people
(including myself) recite this
phrase at the end of our prayers:
“This is my will but nonetheless,
Thy will be done.”
In other words, “it is our will
that our child be healed, or
marriage be restored, or this
person be saved, or this addiction
falls off or our bills get paid, but
we are not too sure if You want
good things for us.”
But what if it were possible to
know the will of God for your
life, I mean without question?
Would you want to know?
Before you answer that,
though, are you willing to toss
out every wind of doctrine or
teaching that has caused you to
sway to and fro in your beliefs
about the will of God? Are you
willing to turn from your own
opinions shaped out of your past
experiences and presumptive
outcomes based on testimonies
of other people?
It is an easy thing to say, “I
guess it was God’s will” when
prayers are not answered or
when they are. The truth is God
has a plan for every one of our
lives. A good plan, and while not
all the plans look the same,
heartache and disease are never
a part of His plan.
Here is a truth written
thousands of years ago by the
prophet Isaiah but is most
The Alvin Community
College Board of Regents voted
to adjust student tuition and fees
during their meeting Nov. 21.
Under the changes, tuition per
credit hour will increase from
$46 to $47 for students who live
in district and from $92 to $94
for those who live outside the
district. Even with the increase,
the college remains the third
lowest rate for six Gulf Coast
community colleges.
The increase will take effect
in fall of 2020 and is the first
increase since 2017.
“We’re pleased with our fiscal
situation that we can keep tuition
at a reasonable level,” Board
Chair Mike Pyburn said. “We
want to keep it as low as we can
to remain accessible to as many
students as possible.”
There were also decreases and
increases in certain fees that
applied to specific programs.
In other action, regents
approved a set of core value
statements for the college. The
statement includes the acronym
CARES for Community Asset,
Accountable, Responsive,
Excellence and Student-
centered.
The statements were
developed through focus groups,
meetings and a survey and
included input from faculty,
students, staff and members of
the community. The core value
statements help in defining the
college’s purpose and serves to
accompany the mission and
vision statements for ACC.
“The development of our core
values statements was an
exciting and inclusive process,”
ACC President Christal M.
Albrecht said. “I deeply
appreciate the participation of
the ACC board, the ACC
Foundation, our Community
Advisory Committee and all of
space sake.
“And behold a leper came and
worshiped Him saying, ‘Lord, if
You are willing, You can make
me clean.’ Then Jesus put out
His hand and touched Him
saying, ‘I am willing, be
cleansed.’ Immediately
leprosy was cleansed.”
8:2-3
“ ... saying, ‘Lord, my servant
is lying at home paralyzed,
dreadfully tormented.’ And
Jesus said to him, ‘I will come
and heal him.’” Matt. 8:6-7
“Go your way, and as you
have believed, so let it be done
for you.” And his servant was
healed that very hour.” Matt;
8:13
“Be of good cheer daughter;
your faith has made you well.
And the woman was made well
from that hour.” Matt: 9:22
“And when He had come into
the house, the blind men came
to Him. And Jesus said to them,
‘Do you believe that I am able to
do this?’ They said to Him, ‘Yes,
Lord.’ Then He touched their
eyes saying, ‘According to your
faith let it be to you.’ And their
eyes were opened.” Matt: 9:28-
