RECEDING GUMS
Gum recession, which involves lowering of the gingival (gum) tissue
around each tooth, becomes more prevalent with age; about half of
older adults have at least one tooth affected by gum recession. Aside
from aging, this condition may also be influenced by genetic factors. For
instance, some people are born with thinner gum tissue than others,
insufficient bone structure for overlying gums, and/or poorly positioned
teeth, all of which predispose them to gum recession. Otherwise, it is
possible that brushing teeth too aggressively (or with a brush with
bristles that are too firm) may contribute to gingival recession over time.
Whatever the cause, gum recession can lead to tooth sensitivity (due to
exposed roots). The dentist should be consulted.
There is no magic to avoiding gum recession and achieving optimal
dental hygiene success. Almost everyone can do it with a modest
amount of time invested daily. Keeping up with home dental care as well
as scheduling periodic cleanings and wellness exams are two important
steps toward accomplishing the goal of a healthy mouth. For full-service
dental care for all members of your family, please call 281-331-0020 or
visit us at alvindentalcare.com for an appointment. We’re located at
1701 Fairway Plaza, Suite 20, on Highway 35 By-Pass.
P.S. To avoid gum recession, brush your teeth gently with a soft-
bristle toothbrush in circular motions or at a 45-degree angle to the teeth
rather than straight up and down or across, which can traumatize gums.

I’m tempted to act out in rebel-
lion and choose that response.
But it’s not a normal reaction for
me anymore.
Disobedience is rebellion and
a rebellious attitude against au-
thority is actually demonically
influenced. And whether a per-
son has never entered a church
or may have occupied the front
row for years, if they are in di-
rect opposition or rebellion
against God or His Word there is
an un-godly influence behind it.
There are many areas in the
Word of God that I don’t have
a complete understanding yet
but I realize God’s word doesn’t
need to change I need to yield
my will to Him.
“Trusting in the Lord with all
my heart and not leaning on my
own understanding.” Prov. 3:5
As Christians we are not do-
ing things to please other people
or to get God to be pleased with
us. When we yield to Him by
faith and let Him LOVE us, we
will begin to trust in His good-
ness and this will automatically
create a healthy submissive at-
titude. It is a natural reaction to
His supernatural love, instead of

When you hear the word “obe-
dience” do you automatically sit
up straight, furrow your brow
and look serious. Or does the
thought of “submission” cause
you to slump your shoulders and
lower your head just a bit?
What is the difference?
I recently heard a man give
this illustration that occurred
while he and his wife were
teaching their young children to
be obedient. One day he told his
two year old son to throw some
paper in the trash can. The child
picked up the paper and all the
way to the kitchen he stomped
his feet and repeated, “NO! NO!
NO!”
The man laughed and said,
“Now that was obedience but
NOT submission.”
So what IS the difference?
The attitude in which we do
things.
Well, my attitude towards
many things has not always
been happy or eager. There was
grumbling, complaining and
outright defiance, especially to-
ward my parents (mostly outside
our home). And later toward my
husband, work etc.
And deep down I didn’t want
to be like that but I felt justified
in my actions. I always came up
with a reason for my disobedi-
ence and lack of respect for oth-
ers.
But I didn’t realize that
there is a difference between
Godly obedience and Godly
submission. (Old Testament
- obedience. New Testament-
submission).
And even though I now have
received new life in Christ I cer-

fear of punishment.
For example, when I was
just getting to know Jesus and
experiencing His love through and laid the flower on top.
His Word I saw this reference
to a godly wife “wives submit
to your own husbands, as to the
Lord” and “respect your hus-
bands.” So I asked the Lord to
teach me how to be submissive
and what does respect look like love and respect for Jesus who
loved me first.
(Submission.)
I didn’t deserve God’s love,
no one does. It’s a gift.
And I don’t always ‘Teel” like
submitting myself and putting
other’s first.
But if you are yielding your-
self to the love of God you will
be submissive to His rule and
order and ultimately love will
win over self rule.
Now in the past I was Anyone who is receiving the
usually in a hurry and I would love of Jesus will eagerly desire
just throw the thing together,
“who cares what it looks like,” I
would reason, “it’s just going to naturally. Not always easy, but
get messed up again,” and this
deceptive mindset, “besides it’s
not like my husband appreciates
anything I do for him anyway.”
(Obedience.)
But I will never forget that
morning, I had been having a
wonderful conversation in my
heart with Jesus and I remember
hearing the Holy Spirit speak so
softly to me, “Why don’t you
make the bed like you are mak-
ing it for Me.”
I laughed out loud, “For you
Lord?” Well, in that case ... and
even though it didn’t really need
it, I put on fresh linens, took
great care in tucking in the cor-
ners and fluffing the pillows. I
