Changing the Face of Construction
This year, 2017, commemo-
rates the 100th anniversary of
the entrance of the United States
into World War 1.
In keeping with the commem-
oration of this historic event,
the exhibit takes a look at what
our town was like then and how
WW1 impacted the community
of Alvin, according to a news
release from the museum.
Thanks to the availability of
digital copies of the Alvin Sun,
museum researchers were able
to discover the names of mem-
bers of the community who
served in battle.
Over sixty names of service-
men were mentioned in articles
as well as copies of letters sent
home from the war front. These
became the focus of our tribute
to those who served as well as
those who made the ultimate
sacrifice.
The museum’s collection of
artifacts provided two uniforms
worn during the war and some
facts relating to the wearer or at
least a supposition of this, as of-

ness investment, and expanding
household spending.
Also, the fact that inflation
ten donated artifacts come with
limited details.
A collection of pictures from
a government publication pro-
vided some insight to the many
aspects of the war. Reproduc-
tions of posters demonstrate the
propaganda program initiated to
get the country ready for the war
effort.
To illustrate what the cultural
environment was at the time of
the war, representative displays
give a glimpse of what life was
like in our town, including life
at home, fashion, and the busi-
ness community.
An interactive display al-
lows a museum visitor to sit in a
“homelike” setting and read let-
ters from Alvin soldiers written
to family and friends.
The temporary exhibit will be
in place from for the rest of this
month through December.
The Alvin Museum is located
at 302 W Sealy St in Alvin. For

devastation of hurricanes Har-
vey, Irma, and Maria has caused
severe hardship, storm-related
disruptions and rebuilding are
viewed as unlikely to materially
alter the course of the national
economy over the medium term,
although conditions will be
monitored closely.
Given this view, the FOMC
decided to leave the target range
for the federal funds rate at 1
to 1-1/4 percent which remains
quite accommodative, to support
further strengthening in labor
market conditions and manage-
able inflation.
Future adjustments will be
based on changing conditions.
