Honor 01 Pioneer Family

The unveiling was sponsored
by the Daughters of the Repub-
lic of Texas, Presidents of Texas
Chapter of Odessa. Participa-
ting in the ceremony were Mr.
Loving’s great-granddaughters,
chapter president Gail Loving
Barnes, who unveiled the mark-
er, and Julia Cauble Smith of
Midland, who gave the dedica-
tion speech.

In memory of the late Joseph
Bourland Loving, a citizen of the
Republic of Texas, and the
great-grandfather of Phyllis
Loving Goodwin (Paducah), an
official grave marker was un-
veiled recently in Fisher County
as a special Texas Sesquicen-
tennial event.
Mr. Loving was born January
24, 1846, in Collin County, the

The Paducah Arts & Crafts Forum
met in the home of Loyd and Anna ing’s granddaughter, Donnie
V. Mayes on Monday evening,
April 28, for a general business
meeting.
First on the agenda was discus-
sion of show expenses and the
building of display panels for future
shows.
A field day is set for Saturday,
May 31, when members will bring a
sack lunch and go on “location to
.paint, take pictures and sketch. If
weather is not cooperative, the
alternative will be to set up at the
Alamo School. Participants are to
meet at Mary Ann Gorham’s house
at 8:30 a.m.
The group also discussed the
upcoming Vernon Art Show May
16-18, and the Matador Art Show,
May 25 and 26. For more informa-

A workshop with James Ivy
Edwards in watercolor, acrylic and
oil painting is being pursued.
A joint workshop in Childress
with Jon Birdsong teaching water-
color will be announced later.
After refreshments, members en-
joyed a tour of the Mayes’ lovely
home, full of handmade decor. This
included Anna V’s beautiful oil
paintings, fiber art, decorated eggs,
quilts, and crocheted doilies, which
had been made into bowls and
<4^»Ps.

The Bearden reunion dinner was
Sandlin, Jo Ann Davis, Marilyn
Parnell, Mary Clark, Sally Wilkin-
son, Adelle Smith, and Nancy
Bratton by hostess, Juanita Whit-
aker.
An impressive installation of new
officers was conducted by Mary
Clark.

Mark Damron Smith of Dumom
will receive a B.S. in Pharmacy
from Southwestern Oklahoma State
University in Weatherford, Okla-
homa, on Friday, May 9.
Smith is a graduate of Guthrie
(Texas) High School, and of Texas
A. & M. University. He will be
employed by Revco in Littlefield
after graduation.
Mark has also been listed in
Who s Who in American Colleges
and Universities.
His parents arc Mr. and Mrs.
Melvin (Modv) Smith of Dumont.
Tau. He will also serve as their
delegate to the Tech Engineering
Student Council.
Additional honors Long has re-
ceived during this year include
acceptance of an invitation to
membership in Tau Beta Pi. This
inviation to membership is made
only to jniors in the top one-eighth
of their class and to seniors in the
top one-fifth of their class... subject
to other criteria. Larry has also
accepted an invitation to member-
ship in the Golden Key National
Honor Society. Membership re-
quires students to have a GPA
within the top fifteen percent of the
combined junior and senior classes
at the University level.
Larry is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Homer L. Long, 1309 16th St.,
Paducah. Tx.
Delphian Study Club
The Delphian Study Club met
recently in the home of hostess
Juanita Whitaker. President Mary
Clark called the meeting to order
and the Club Collect was read in
unison by all members.
A brief business meeting was
conducted. The minutes were read
and approved with a report on dues
and fines. Discussion of the next
meeting which is husband’s night,
will be held at the home of Sally
Wilkinson. A student was voted om

other relatives from Amarillo, Lev-
elland, Lamesa, Oklahoma City,
Lubbock, Matador, Dumas, Floy-
dada, and Paducah, who enjoyed
eating delicious food, visiting and
the exchanges of pictures and
reminiscing about past reunions.
