UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RUFUS B. HOOKER, OF STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS.
KNEE-PROTECTOR.Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 15, 191.9.
Application filed April 30, 1915. Serial No. 24,980.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that T, Rurus B. HoOKER, a
citizen of the United States, residing at
Stephenville, in the county of Erath and
5 State of Texas, have invented certain new
and useful Improvements in Knee-Protec-
tors; and I do hereby declare the following
to be a full, clear, and exact description of
the invention, such as will enable others
10 skilled in the art to which it appertains to
make and use the same.
This invention relates to knee protectors,
designed for use by carpet layers, cotton
pickers, carpenters, and other worlunen and
15 mechanics, and one of the principal objects
of the invention is to provide a knee protec-
tor having a. spring at one or both ends
which will hold the protector pad in place
and render the same easy to attach and de-
20 tach, 'to and from the leg of the wearer.
Another object of the invention is to pro-
vide a knee protector comprising a piece of
material open along its edges and having
springs connected to the opposite ends of
25 the protector, said springs having outwardly
curved ends so that the springs can be read-
ily clasped onto the leg of the wearer and
will hold the protector firmly in place, and
at the same time permit the movements of
30 the lege with comfort.
The foregoing and other objects may be
attained by means of the construction illus-
trated in the accompanying drawings, in
which-
35 Figure 1. is a view showing the application
of the invention,
Fig. 2 is a rear side perspective view of
the protector, and
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken
40 through one of the springs.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1
designates a knee protector comprising arectangular piece of flexible material of
suitable character, and connected to the op-
posite ends of the knee protector 1 are 45
curved springs 2. The springs 2 are secured
to the protector 1 by rivets or suitable fas-
tenings 3. The ends of the springs 2 are
curved outwardly as shown at 4, said ends
being separated a sufficient distance so that 50
the protector can be readily sprung onto the
leg of the wearer, with one spring above and
the other below the knee.
From the foregoing it will be obvious
that a knee protector made in accordance 55
with this invention can be quickly attached
in place on the leg of the wearer, and can
be readily withdrawn, while at the same
time, the springs will give to the action of
the muscles of the legs, and will not be un- 60
comfortable to wear.
Various changes may be made in the de-
tails of construction without departing from
the spirit ,and scope of the invention as de-
fined in the claim. 65
What is claimed is:-
A knee protector comprising an elongated
strip of material adapted to be formed into
an arcitate tulle having a longitudinally ex-
tending opening of considerable width in 70
one side thereof, and spring clips adapted
to secure the iateria l in tube formation and
having their ends spaced to provide an en-
trance opening coextensive with and alining
with the opening in the 'tube and each clip 75
having its ellds curved in a direction away
from the opening in the tube to permit the
easy application of the protector.
In testimony whereof I. affix my signature
ill presence of two witnesses.
