Exchange Vows
95th Birthday
Mrs. Henry Gilder celebrated
her 95th birthday Tuesday, Sep-
tember the I Oth, in her room at
Mrs. Black’s Convalesant Home.
Many friends and relatives re-
membered the occasion with flow-
ers and gifts.
Mrs. Gilder is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Gus Thornton and
was born and raised in Mississippi-
She and her deceased husband,
Henry Gilder came to De Leon in
1895 where she has resided con-
tinuously and reared a family of 6
sons and daughters. Mrs. Gilder
has led an active life being a mem-
ber of Round Grove Baptist church
since a young woman. Her mind is
still alert but her body is feeble
and requires nursing care. A few
visitors each day are allowed to
say hello.

State Missions
Program Held
The Women from First Baptist
church WMU met at the church
Tuesday for the Mary Hill Davis
State Mission Program. There were
27 women present. Mrs. Ray Har-
vey directed the program,
theme “Our Vineyard.”
Pictures of Missionaries
pinned on a large Texas map
their respective fields of labor.
A collection will be made to
State Missions through the church
Sunday.
Mrs. Al Strasner is WMU presi-
dent. A covered dish luncheon was
enjoyed.

Is Showe Honeree
The home of Mrs. Otis Baber
was the scene of a bridal shower
honoring Mrs. Dan Standlee, the
former Nancy Johnson, on Satur-
day, August 31st from 7 to 9 p.m.
Hostesses for the shower were
Miss Mary Kimble, M’mes. A. A.
Pressley, Otho Warren, Cecil Short,
E. D. Mahan, Wade Smith, Lowell
Pittman, Lex Shelby, Archie Crit-
tenden, Jim Wilkerson, Inez White-
hurst, Cyril Irby and Otis Baber.
The honoree was dressed in light
blue brocaded satin, princess style
with a square neckline and a full
skirt. Her corsage was of red carna-
tions.
The table was covered with white
net over satin with a flower ar-
rangement of red carnations, flank-
ed on either side by red satin hearts
tied with red ribbon. Red punch
with cookies decorated with red
was served to some 40 guests. Pre-
siding at the punch bowl were Mrs.
Jack Emerson, Miss Pat Mahan
and Mrs. Cyril Keith.
The bride’s book was
satin outlined in lace, decorated
with orange blossoms and white
ribbon streamers- The register table
was decorated with red candles and
red satin hearts. Alternating at the
book was Mrs. Jimmy Standlee and
Miss Nelda Irby.
In the receiving line were Mrs.
Otis Baber, Mrs. Dan Standlee,
Mrs. W. E. Johnson, Mrs. Bryan
Standlee and her mother, Mrs. Ora
Ferguson. Their corsages were of
red carnations, gifts of the hos-
tesses.
Miss Shirley Bassett and Mrs.
Cyril Keith assisted the hostesses in
showing the gifts-

The bride chose for her wedding
a brown cotton sheath dress fash-
ioned with a large white collar and
brown accessories-
Mrs. Brownlee is a 1953 grad-
uate of De Leon High School. She
attended Tarleton State College
where she was a member of the
Coronas Club. She has received her
degree from Texas Technological
College in Lubbock. The groom
was graduated from De Leon High
School in 1950. He is presently em-
ployed in the electronics division
of Convair Aircraft in Fort Worth.
