GENERAL DGS NEWS
PRESIDENT'S COLUMN
Spring has sprung, and there is green sprouting
everywhere. I hope some of you are having
success in getting your family research to sprout
new branches or have some of those branches
breaking into bloom.
This year is going by too quickly. We've had some
successes and some failures as we look at new
and different types of events to bring to the
genealogical community. As the genealogical
community changes, so will we -- to keep up with
the needs of our members.
Next year's scheduling has already begun and we
are open to suggestions as to what you, our
members and attendees, would like to see or learn.
Do you have a topic that would further your
research and benefit other researchers too? Trying
to keep abreast of all the new and old topics has
been a challenge for us!
We will be voting for next year's Board of Directors
at the General Meeting on 21 April 2003. Read
more about our nominees on page 186. I think the
nominating committee did a super job this year --
Hats off to them!
The April general meeting has Lynell Moss
returning to us. Her topic will be Preparing to Do
Research in Salt Lake City. Whether you've
never been to the Family History Library in Salt
Lake City or are a seasoned visitor, I know you'll
learn insider hints from Lynell. I hope to see you
there! Tresa
DGS WRITING AWARDS
Lost But Not Forgotten
We want to extend a belated acknowledgment for
George Pettett's submission to the DGS Writing
Contest for his entry in the Division I - Family
History section. His outstanding work received the
Second Place award for Pettett & Pettit: This
Family Business. The title of his work was
accidentally omitted in the Jan/Feb issue.Hats Off!
Our Nominating committee was comprised of Alvin
E. Harper and Alfretta Antoine from the DGS
Board, and Shirley Sloat, Ed Millis and Ann Melugin
Williams from our general membership.
We also want to thank Susan Morris for stepping up
and assuming the Volunteer Coordinator position.
She has the VERY BIG shoes of Alvin E. Harper to
fill, as he stepped down due to personal reasons in
March. We hope this is only a short hiatus and that
Alvin will be back helping DGS, area genealogists
and the DPL in no time at all!
Thank you all who give their time and expertise to
make DGS a strong and progressing Society!New Members
A warm Dallas "welcome"
to our new members!
