ing from 10-yards out and
Blaine Bivins from two yards,
In a Junior Varsity game
last Thursday night at Wildcat
Stadium, the Canadian Jay-
Vees defeated the Panhandle
Junior Varsity 27 to 8.
In their first meeting of the
season, at Panhandle on Sep-
tember 10, the Wildcats had
won a 56-7 blow-out. They are
well into their third undefeated
season.

14-0. Brad Timmons scored in
the fourth quarter on a 6-yard
run, and Eric Garvin inter-
cepted a pass and returned it 45
yards for a touchdown.
The Panthers scored on a 65-
yard touchdown run and con-
verted to make it 27-8 at the
finish.
The Wildcat JayVees will be
back at home again tonight at

both teams but no contest.

The Canadian Wildcats,
with a fast-breaking attack and
a powerful defense, have
played the toughest pre-con-
ference schedule in the league
and have showed steady im-
provement. Their performance
against Panhandle Friday
night marks them as the team
to beat in the District 2-AA
race

front. Stratford defeated

The XV cats will attempt to
add their ninth consecutive vic-
tory over the Clarendon Bron-
cos when the two teams meet
in a crucial District 2-AA con-
ference contest at Clarendon
Friday night.
The Broncos opened the
season with a string of five
straight wins over non-con-
ference opponents, but have
lost their first two conference
games to Memphis and Wel-
lington and are now battling to
stay in the race after being
ranked among the top AA
teams in the area on the basis
of their non-conference record.
But Coach Mike Smith’s
Broncos are loaded with talent
and laced with speed. The
The Canadian Wildcats and
the Memphis Cyclones have
emerged as the front-runners
ii the District 2-AA conference
race both with 2-0 records in
conference play, and the Wel-
lington Skyrockets, with a 35-7
trouncing of the Clarendon
Broncos, refuse to be counted
out of the play-off picture.
The Skyrockets, defending
district champions, are 1-1 in
conference play. They lost to
the Wildcats decisively in the
conference opener, but were
just as decisive in defeating
Clarendon, and should be
favored to win over the Pan-
handle Panthers when they
meet next week.
The Skyrockets play the
Wheeler Mustangs Friday
night, and should outclass the
0-2 Mustangs.
The Panhandle Panthers
will battle it out with the un-
beaten Memphis Cyclones
tomorrow night at Memphis,
and will be favored to lose.
But the Cyclones, Class A
State Champions last year, still
have a tough row to hoe in Dis-
trict 2-AA with the Canadian
Wildcats at Canadian next
week, and the Wellington
Skyrockets in the final con-
ference game with Wellington
at Memphis on November 4.
The Wildcats from
Canadian will be favored to
eliminate the twice-beaten
Clarendon team this week, and
will face their big decision with
Memphis here next week.
Memphis obliterated the
Wheeler Mustangs 52 to 22 at
Wheeler last Friday night. The
Cyclones ran up a five touch-
two teams have a Jong history
of tough competition. The last
Clarendon victory over the
Wildcats, however, came in the
1983 season when the Broncos
won 20 to 7. Since that time the
Wildcats have a string of eight
consecutive wins, 40 to 0 last
vear, 21-19 in 1990, 34-0 in
1989, 51-22 in 1988. 29-10 in
1987, 33-0 in 1986. 20-0 in
1985, and 26-6 in 1984.
The Wildcats have a 4-3
record for the season and are
2-0 in conference, tied with
Memphis for first place in dis-
trict. The Wildcats won their
opening games from West
Texas High and Quanah, were
upset by Stratford, and lost by
close scores to Class AAA
Childress and Class AAA Per-
ryton before moving into the
conference season. They have
played a tougher schedule than
Clarendon, and should be rated
as favorites Friday night
against the Broncos.
The Canadian team will be
at top strength for the Claren-
don game. Game time at
Clarendon will be 7:30 o’clock.

Wildcats seek 9th straight win
over Clarendon Friday night
Clarendon players were ranked
fifth in the state in track com-
petition last spring, and were
off to a fast start in football
before hitting Memphis and
Wellington on successive week-
ends as conference play began.
The Broncos have nine
starters returning, and seven-
teen lettermen from the 1991
season. They opened the season
with impressive victories over
Claude, Boys Ranch, Sham-
rock, White Deer and Happy,
but lost their conference opener
to Memphis 26 to 9 and were
blasted last week by the Wel-
lington Skyrockets 35 to 7.
Their record against the
Wildcats for the last decade has
been a losing one, although the
