Plans for the annual Easter
Egg Hunt for the children in
the community were discussed
by members of Alpha Sigma
Theta chapter of Beta Sigma
Phi at their meeting Monday
night at the First National
Bank hospitality room.
Darcee Smith presided at
the meeting and announced
that the Junior High and
Senior High 4-H clubs have
volunteered to help with the
hunt, to be held Sunday after-
noon, April 11, at the Abraham
Home Place at 3 o’clock.
Items have been ordered for
the hunt and posters are being

tess to the Hobby Club Tues-
day evening in the High School
Home Ec room.
The program on "Button
Babies" was given by Suzie
Anderson, who showed how to
dress up buttons with lace and
notions.

Cancer Society
meets at noon
on Tuesday
The Hemphill Unit of the
American Cancer Society met
at noon Tuesday at Maxey’s II
for a Dutch lunch.
Those present were Camille
Nies, Field Representative for
District 15E, President
Pauline Rivers, Polly Tubb,
Lilly Reeves, Norma Rogers,
Bobbie Jo Ramp and Agnes
Adams.
Mrs. Rivers called for a
treasurers report from Mrs.
Ramp.
Prizes for the annual Bike-
A-Thon were discussed.
Training for drivers for
Road to Recovery, to provide
transportation to cancer
patients for treatment in
Amarillo will be done after the
Cancer Crusade in April.
Lilly Reeves, Cancer
Crusade Chairman, is asking
for block walkers for the
crusade.
A nominating committee of
Loreta Morgan, Polly Tubb and
Peggy Pollard is to report in
May.
House were Frances Kirby,
Lisa Johnston, Donna Carter
and Leah Hammonds, and,
from the Canadian YMCA,
Gilissa Murray, Cathy
Campbell and Ginger Ruther-
ford.

Jones exchanged wedding
vows Friday evening, March 5,
in the First United Methodist
Church.
Officiant at the double ring
ceremony was the Rev. Jesse
Hodge.
The bride is the daughter of
LaVerta Schafer The
bridegroom is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Jones of Farwell.
Renee Cook of Lubbock and
Robert Ezzell were the couple’s
attendants.
The bride was escorted by
her son, Josh Reeves.
Dawn Dial sang, "I Will Be
Here", accompanied by the or-
ganist, Liz Hodge.
Following the ceremony a
reception was held in the home
of the bride’s mother. Beef bris-
ket, hors d’ouvres, beverages
and wedding cake were served.
After a wedding trip to
Santa Fe, New Mexico Mr. and
Mrs. Jones will be at home at
418 Locust in Canadian.
Mrs. Jones is an employee of
the First State Bank. Her hus-
band is with the ASCS office in
Canadian.

tension Homemakers Club
toured the County Sheriff’s
Department and the County
Jail during their meeting Tues-
day afternoon.
The remainder of the meet-
ing was held in the Fellowship
Hall of the First Methodist
Church.
The hostess, Lyn Garrison,
served donuts, cookies and
beverages to Maggie Betts,
Caroline Cornett, Lyndale
Gray, Shaaron Keener, Char-
lene Kirkendall, Carolyn War-
ren and a guest, Karla
Shrader.
Staff members from
Rachel’s Little House attended
a workshop on Child Care
Management Services held
Saturday in Amarillo.
Guest speakers were John
“Kinderman” Taylor, founder
and artistic director of the In-
ternational Movement Arts In-
stitute, and Dr. Sheryn
Johnston, professor of special
education and early childhood
at West Texas State Univer-
sity.
Taylor presented two iden-
tical sessions focusing on
building self-esteem using
ideas and resources suitable
for any age child. “KinderCise”
is the “Learning Through
Movement” concept developed
by specialist John Taylor. The
innovative method uses
rhythms, chants and foreign
languages to reinforce positive
concepts in a pleasing and ex-
citing way. It stimulates the
minds and bodies of children
and motivates them to love
learning and shows perspec-
tives which will affect their
feelings about the world
around them.
Dr. Johnston’s morning ses-
sion emphasized the
Americans with Disabilities
Act and suggested ways to
prepare facilities to accom-
modate children with special
needs. The session was
designed for daycare directors
and their assistants and
registered family home
owners. Those attending
earned management training
hours.

their donations for the hunt
from local merchants.
Teresa Johnston said that
she has a family to donate an
Easter food basket to. Chapter
members were reminded to
continue to bring canned goods
to help build the food bank for
such needs.
The sorority will hold its an-
nual slumber party Friday
night at The Emerald House. A
guest list was made and there
was discussion on a scavenger
hunt and food items to be
brought.
The hostesses, Darcee
Smith and Amy Albin, served
apple dessert with ice cream
and whipped topping and iced
tea to Ginger Webb, Kasie
Suzie Anderson

Suzie Anderson presented a
program for members of Kappa
Kappa Iota teachers’ sorority
on Wednesday, February 3.
Mrs. Anderson demon-
strated how to make a doll
from an old lacey pillow case,
an antique-style doll to be
placed on a bed.
The meeting was held in the
home of Lin Lovelace with
Loretta Holbrook as co-hos-
tess.
Refreshments of angel food
cake, Valentine cookies, cheese
dip, chips, tea and coffee were
served to guests Krista
Lovelace and Ariane Janial
and to LaRue Cleveland and
Janice Kendall.
Alpha Eta Zeta plans for annual
Easter Egg Hunt Monday night

Brownie Troop 79 meets
for G.S. birthday party
Brownie Troop 79 met Tues-
day afternoon at Jackson Park
for a Girl Scout birthday party.
The meeting opened with
the Pledge to the Flag and the
Girl Scout Promise.
Lindsey Purcell provided
ice cream bars for refresh-
ments.
Games were played.
The meeting then moved to
the First Christian Church.
Plans were made for the troop’s
investiture and rededication
ceremony on March 23rd.
