DUNCANVTLLE-For the
second straight game, the
Burleson Elks came close but
not close enough.
In terms of points, the
Elks lost by seven Tuesday
night - 60-53- but in terms
of time it was closer than
that.
“We just need to learn to
get the job done,” Elk Coach
Robert Hale said after the
road loss to Class 4A Dun-
canville.
“This is both a mental and
a physical thing. Physically,
we are coming along real
well.
“We had another good
hustling effort. We got beat
by a good team.”
Hale, who sends his Elks
into the Cleburne Tourna-
ment today (Thursday), has
taken over a team that is
unaccustomed to pressure-
packed finishes.
They’ve been in all three
games to the finish this year,
winning one and losing two.
If opponents have one com-
mon bond, it is a great deal
more past experience in the
close ones than the Elks
have.
Richard Miles led the Elk
scoring attack with 15
points, hitting six of nine
shots from the floor and
three of five free throws.
Mark Williamson, with a
perfect four-for-four floor
shooting record and three of
four from the free throw
line, had 11 points and Craig
Patty had 10.
Miles and Scott Metheny,
who had seven points but
nine assists to set up scores,
fouled out before the game
ended.
Patty had perhaps his best
game of the young season
with an Elk high of 10
rebounds Tuesday in addi-
tion to his 10 points.
John Lewis had n[ne re-
sbpxuid-.and eight points. I
Statistically, it was a good
night for the Elks. They hit
11 of 19 free throws to
improve slightly on that
percentage and hit 22 of 44
shots to keep their field goal
percentage near .500.
The Elks meet Brewer at
6:30 p.m. tonight in their
tournament debut at Cle-
burne. If they win, they play

independent in your retirement years.
