Local residents and
students will have an oppor-
tunity this summer to ex-
plore the widely varied eth-
nic, religious, linguistic and
geographical divisions of the
Soviet Union during a four-
week summer tour sponsor-
ed by Baylor University.
Dr. Frauke A. Harvey,
chairman of modern foreign
languages and professor of
German and Russian, will
lead the group through the
well-known Soviet cities of
Leningrad, Moscow, Baku
and Tashkent.
The group also will travel
thousands of miles by bus,
train and airplane to the
cities of Yerevan, the capital
of Armenia; to Ashkhabad,
located near the Iranian
border; and to Alma-Ata,
which borders China, she
said.
“We won’t just hit the
tourist highlights, but also
the places where the aver-
age Russian goes -- the
places he must contend with
every day,” Mrs. Harvey
said. These include the mar-
kets, restaurants
department stores.
Prior to the trip, Mrs.
Harvey will hold lectures on
culture, politics, history and
religion to better prepare
the participants for the life
they will see in the Soviet
Union.
“They should be the best-
informed group going to the
Soviet Union,” she said.
“The more they know, the
more they will get out of the
trip and the more they will
retain when they return
home.”
Mrs. Harvey, who has
made the trip to the Soviet
Union every other year since
1969, also has scheduled
some pre-arranged meetings
with Soviet citizens.
The tour will begin in the
latter part of May and end in

Q. 'What if I buy a liffe
insurance policy and theft
find out I can get a better
deal somewhere else?
* * *
A. If somebody suggests you
drop your old policy and get a
new one, get the proposal ip
writing. Then talk to your
agent to see if your old policy
can’t be changed to suit you.
The reason for all this is that
the longer you hold whole life
policies, the more valuable they
get. With a new policy, yo^i
might lose value. Also, wheh
you buy a life insurance policy
there’s a contestable period of
two years during which the
company can question stat^
ments you’ve made in your
application; so you’d have a
new contestable period if yog
changed policies.
