Much of the future progress
of a town depends upon the
home life of the community.
If the town is divided into
business, social, religious cli
ques oa groups, with hard and
fast lines dra^n and each pul-
ling apainst the others, there is
but little opportunity for real
progress. The people can not
get together on a common plane
of understanding and work. No
one faction is willing to accept
the leadership of another.
But when a town is compari-
tively free from paralyzing cli-
ques and jealousies there is
great opportunity for advance-
ment Everyqody knows every-
body else, eech feels free to ad-
vance suggestions to others,
and in return is willing to re-
ceive them-
ln this way the best points of
pvery proposition are brought to
the siirfact. and the lopical lea-
der to carrv the work to com-
pletion is easily selected.
The closed mind is the heri-
tage of a town divided airainst
itself. It imbibes but few new
thrughts, and those few are
centered around the particular
clique to which the mind be-
longs.
The open mind gathers in
class. They would ae free ani
independent, and all had dreaaM
•f sudden wealth.
Now they have not even brea4
and are starving by the hun-
dreds of thousands,
America is feeving many ef
them, as usual, but while en-
gaged in this work of the Sam-
aritan we can not forget that
they brought their plight upon
themselves.
Mob rule sounds good to the
mob only until hunger begins
to gnaw.
We can not go back to ten
years ago and do the things we
should have done then.
If each property owner had
planted a profusion of trees, and
shrubbery, and roses, various
kinds of plant'life, ten years ape
our town would now be a bower
of beauty, a variiable garden of
Eden.
But the majority did not, and
and we are not enjoying theoe-
lights of a beauty spot of na-
ture.
Since time will not wait for us
it behooves us to keep up with
time. This spring is the time
to begin the cultivation of that
beauty which we would enjoy
in the decline of life.
Age comes to us all, but it can
be made more attractive by the
exercise of forethought and the
mnch food for new thought, and; Mpe„diture of a ,jttle enerRy
that thought if capable of ex-

Conditions were bad in Russia
under the autocratic rule of the
czaas. But the people had bread
and enjoyed life, if but little
more.
Then shey overthrew and
murdered the czar and beggar,
ed the nobility and formed a
government of the pessant
while we are still enjoying the
heritage of comparative youth.
Sometimes we wonder what
this world would be like if every
body were to suddenly begin
telling the truth about every-,
