A CHECKBOOK,-^
THE BEST STABILIZER^
IN LIFE’S FLIGHT
yOUVE read about Orville Wright’s success with his aeroplane »tab-
JL iliser, the balance wheel of flight. In life’s flight you need several
balance wheels. For instance, you need the balance wheels of
. honesty, of morality, of physical well being, of money. One might write
a column about life’s stabilizers. Instead we suggest that you THINK
this sketch over.
THEN COME GET A CHECK BOOK.

Sheriff Lain returned Monday
from Polk county, Ark., having
in custody one Marshall Rhodes.
* young man about twenty thrj»
years old, who was arrested by
an Arkansas constable at the re
quest of Sheriff Lain, who held a
warrant for him on the charge
of passing a forged check. The
arrest was made in connection
with passing of a check for $175.
on the Flrat National Bank of
Deiiort. The check purported
to have been drawn by a well
known farmer living near Min-
ter and it was cashed by Dr.
J. H. Moore, the president. The
alleged forgery was discovered
soon after the cheek was cashed.
Dr. Moore became suspicious
and telephoned the fanner, who
said he had never drawn such a
check. Efforts were immediate
ly made to apprehend the man
who had presented the check and
got the money on it, but he had
disappeared. <
A short time before the $175.
check was cashed a youth about
eighteen years old who also lived
in the Minter neighborhood pre-
sented a check for $27 with the
name of Marvin Woodard forged
to it on the First State bank and
got the money on it. One of his
relatives made the amount good
when the forgery developed, but
the grand jury indicted him and
at the last term of the district
court he pleaded guilty and was
given two years with suspended
sentence.
Shortly after the boy’s relative i
made good the $27 that he had
defrauded the First State Bank j
of, the youth paid him the money I
back, took a trip to Dallas, being
gone several days, returned to
Deport and bought himself a $25
suit of clothes, made his sister a
present of a bat and a dress, etc.,
! all of which amounted to over a
at hundred dollars, and still he had |
some money left It was claimed
that before the $175 forgery he
didn’t have any money, and from
this circumstance connected
with other facts it was suspected
that both of the forged instru-
ments were passed by him.
It is understood that Dr.
Moore, the president, said that
he would not be able to recog-
nize the man who presented the
check for $175, but there are
“two or three who can testify
they saw'tbe young man, Mar-
shall Rhodes, enter the bank
and that he disappeared from
the Minter community on the
same day. He was not indicted by
the grand jury. The arrest was
made on a complaint sworn oqt
before Justice of the Peace No-
