it is impossible to introduce any

The Bank of Carrollton last
Wednesday installed their new
safe and a public demonstration
as to the qualities of their pur-
chase was given at the bank in
the evening.
The new safe is the best on
the market and is made by the
Manganese Steel Safe Co. of New
York, being of the screw door,
time lock pattern. Tbe metal
used in it is practically a new
one and is guaranteed to be
absolutely burglar proof in eveiy
particular. In testing the qual-
ities of the metal Mr. Hammons,
a representative of the safe com-
pany, had J. T. Vandergrift to
try to drill into it, but all his
efforts were in vain and he could
only get a hole started no larger
than a pin head. The safe blown
open by the burglars last week
was also tested and after rising a
new chemical called thermide,
which takes the temper out of
steel, the old safe was easily
drilled. This same chemical was
used on the new safe, but it had
the woods. But if she appears
in a neat house dress, her hair

troller’s office, it is a remarkable
fact that instead of the pension
rolls decreasing,they are increas-
ing at a fast rate. Since the cre-
ation of the act to pension the old
of the different metals, and after soldiers, there has been a steady
increase in the number of pen-
sioners, until now there are 7765,
and, according to Captain E. A.
Bolnes, chief pension clerk, it
would not be surprising to have
over 8000 before the expiration
of six months. Indeed, there
are already over 200 applications
already received since the last
apportiontment was made. The
next apportiontment xdllnot be
made until next April, and if the
increase in the number of appli-
cations continues to come at the
present rate it may reduce the
per capita.

just as difficult to drill after the
thermide had been applied as it
was before. The >|etal in the
new safe seems to be practically
soft and pliable, yet it is abso-
lutely drill proof, as was proved
before tbe eyes of the many
lookers-on that had gathered to
see the test.
