This week we fed it quite neces-
sary to put this issue squarely be-
fore the business men and the peo-
ple in general — Do you really want
a newspaper in Aspormont and in
Stonewall county?
For several years, the kind of a
newspaper published in Aspermont
has been the basis of much ridicule
to people in other towns. More es-
pecially has the Star been considered
a joke to the newspaper men of
West Texas. We sincerely hope this
will not be taken as a measure of
belittling the former publishers. For
evidently no one ksew just what the
former editors of the Star had to
contend with. Even a large majority]
of the local citizens were wont to j
ridicule their home town paper.
Maybe you people of Aspermont
did not realize that the Star has
been just what you yourselves have
made it. Maybe you did not know
the town was being judged by the
support given your local newspaper.
Again let. us remind you that the
newspaper is what you make it for
no matter who publishes the paper
it will be with the cooperation of
the business men and' the entire
community that the standard will be
kept above the point of ridiuule.
We ask that you please do not
misunderstand our point, for we do
like the people and the town and
have come to Aspermont with the
intention of making this our home.
But it takes mo>re than the man in
charge of a printing plant to make
a newspaper. Aspermont could and
should have a good newspaper. We
have been in flhis line of endeavor
lor the past fifteen years, we know
how it is done and can do the job
right, provided we have the coopera-
tion of the town. If you really want
a newspaper, here' in Aspermont
that will be a credit and an able as-
set to the town, a paper that will do
everything possible for the upbuild-
ftig and maintaining of civic welfare,
you will not hesitate in lending your
needed support. We know that you
wish your local paper to be a true
representative of the people in re-
gard to news and economic condi-
tions, so we are here urging you to
offer your support and together we
will put Aspermont and Stonewall
county in the lead and keep her on
the map. Otherwise the newspaper
will continue a downward trend and
likewise wiill the town. It is a known
fact that where you find a good
newspaper you find a live wire town.
We have already received the co-
operation of a number of good citi-
zens who doubtless have realized the
necessity of a newspaper in the town
and this support has been sincerely
appreciated.
We are not in the publishing
business for our health and we do not
believe it possible to exist on the glory
and honor attached to the name 'news-
paper man." Do you? - Therefore
we have a right to expect and de-
mand as Amercan citizens, a fair
and just reimbursment for the time
and efforts we expend in your in-
terest and in the interest of your
community. Let us have your coop-
oration and support and we will in
return give you a newspaper that
you will be proud of and not have
to suffer the pangs of ridicule met-
ed out by others in different locali
ties. Good people, it is up to you—
Do you want a real newspaper here
in Aspermont? We will have your
answer in the way you respond to
our plea to put Aspermont and
Stonewall county into the lead of a
van of progressive West Texas cities.
The Editor.
