The Honorable Truett Latimer House of Representatives Austin, Texas Dear Truett: I want to thank you for the resolution which you sponsored in the House this week commending the Federal Power Commission on its decision to hold a general hearing on Natural Gas prices in Midland, March 6. / I believe that I am realistic when I state that the Federal Power Commission is here to stay and it is gratifying to see them leave Washington and come "to the field" for first-hand information. Perhaps they will go back with a better understanding of the finan- cial risk involved in exploration and development for natural gas reserves. Our own West Central Texas is becoming more gas conscious with time. The West Central Texas Oil & Gas Association's Natural Gas Committee, of which I am Chairman, is endeavoring to improve the natural gas market in this area. I urge you in the frustrating days ahead to keep in mind that the oil and gas industry faces some serious problems and any addition- al taxes would be adding straws to the camels back. I personally consider a broad sales tax as the most equitable means of solving our tax problems. Thanks again for your intelligent and conscientious representation. Sincerely, W. N. Tindell WNT/mf I, r . __'4i)
