L217 Don Juan Abilene, Texas July 5,_1961 Representative Truett Latimer H.5.U. Campus Alene, Texas Dear Representa eLtme I am a student at the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston, Texas.;The general Approp- riation Bill in whichthe money for the State Board of Dental Examiners is set out, the subject on which I am writing you. It is the last paragraph which has to do with the acceptance of dentists from the *' armed services and other states with which I am concerned. In my opinion if this bill is passed with this paragraph inserted ir it thena great damage will be done to the dental practice in Texas. We like to feel that the people f Texas have access to the best dental services in the worldand _willdo all in our power to keep it that way. However, itfthis bill is made into taw it wil do much harm to the dental services available to the people of Texas. This will allow dentiststo enter atice inTexas which are not the best,-and this would be bad.for the state and its people. When I am in need of medical attention I demand the best and this is available to the people of Texas. However, if this appropraio l is passed as is, many dentists will be allowed to practice in our state whichare not the best. If a dentists is well educated in the dental practice,;he can pass the state board, and if not we do not want him in Texas. I know that this exam is a hard one, and ITwant to be able to take it beforeI am allowed to practice: inTeas, for If I Pass I Will Know I Am A Qualified Dentists. We have a good dental staff in Texas so le s keep it that way. Very Truly yours
Jerry L. Gribble
