Burglars Hit Four
Places Here
Last Wednesday
Burglars wore at work in As-
permont Wednesday night, Feb.
17, taking approximately $1500
in cash.
Broken into was Mae's Super
Market, Ward's Feed and Slip-
ply, Aspermont High School
and the Tax Assessor-Collector's
Office in the Stonewall County
J Courthouse.
Loss at the Tax Assessor-Cot-
■ lector's, which was at first set
twtt $3,000 was later found to be
$981.05 loss in tax money. IT .r-
. ry McAfee, tax assessor-collector
"called in a State Tux Auditor,
who checked the books and set
• the loss. Also missing was an
• undetermined amount of escrow
money, estimated by records as
, being in the neighborhee'.i i-f
two to three hundred dollar.'.
' Burglars peeled the safe open
in the Tax office, after enter-
ing the south door of the court-
house. The County Treasurers
office was also broken into but
, nothing was missing.
Jim Ward, owner of Ward
Feed and Supply Company said
that about $195 was mis-ing
irom his office. Ward, who is
chairman of the Stonewall Coun-
ty March of Dimes, set his loss
at about $15 and the remainder
belonged to the March of Dimes
and to the Stonewall County
Chamber of Commerce. They
pried open the front door of his
business and ransacked his of-
fice and the office of R. T. Cum-
bie, local trucker.
They pried open the back
door to Mac's Super Market,
taking an undetermined amount
of f:andy and cigarets and about
$10 dollars in change. Luther
Haught, manager, also found
where they had cut up some
barbecue chickens and steaks on
the meat block in the market
anfe had eaten them.
Loss at the Aspermont High
School was about S15 dollars in
change that the Senior class had
for the basketball concession
stand. They also rifled office
desks and equipment., breaking
into soft drink machines, but
didn't get anything.
